About the role
As the Senior Data Engineer, your contribution is centred on creating, maintaining, and standardising robust data models across the People Data Warehouse. Operating independently with limited oversight, you translate functional reporting and analytics requirements into clean database structures and automated transformation routines. By optimising pipeline efficiency and enforcing strict data privacy and access controls, you enable reliable downstream reporting and provide business stakeholders with meaningful, secure enterprise data. In this role, you evaluate existing database infrastructure, review compute workload performance, and recommend targeted pipeline enhancements to solve complex data processing challenges in a quick-paced, Agile operating environment with multiple competing priorities. Based in Woolworths Group India, you act as an essential technical connector across onshore and offshore People Data and Insights teams, Information Management, Group Technology squads and Business Users, maintaining flexible

alignment to support seamless cross-border collaboration. Utilising Google Cloud Platform, SQL scripting, GitHub, Jira, Confluence, and Google Suite, you maintain operational stability, manage computational expenditure, and drive continuous commercial value creation. What you’ll do
• SQL Transformations: Create, maintain and review complex data transformation solutions implemented in SQL across cloud environments in order to sustain timely and accurate data models
• Data Quality Monitoring & Governance Alignment: Establish and review automated data quality monitoring protocols and master data validation routines to enforce data integrity and preserve a single version of truth.
• Database Infrastructure & Performance Evaluation: Evaluate current database structures and query execution efficiency, recommending targeted schema modifications to resolve complex data processing challenges and increase system throughput.
• Peer Coaching & Technical Mentorship: Coach and mentor junior engineering team members, explaining complex data concepts clearly and supporting capability development across the engineering squad.
• Compute Workload & Resource Cost Optimisation: Review and optimise compute workloads and cloud database storage utilisation to manage operational costs and maximise return on technology investments.
• Data Modelling & Presentation Layer Governance: Design and standardise conceptual, logical, and physical data models to support downstream reporting, business intelligence tools,



and advanced analytics requirements.
• Automated Data Orchestration & CI/CD Alignment: Maintain automated extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL/ELT) orchestration workflows using tools such as GitHub, Google Cloud Platform, and SQL scripting to ensure continuous delivery stability.
• Cross-Functional Stakeholder Alignment: Partner with People Data and Insights, Information Management, and Group Technology teams in a client-facing environment to clarify technical requirements and align data structures with business deliverables.
• Emerging Technologies & Agentic AI Exploration: Explore, pilot, and integrate emerging agentic AI solutions and autonomous automation into the data engineering ecosystem—identifying practical opportunities to enhance pipeline efficiency, accelerate data workflows, and support evolving AI initiatives across the People data platform. What you’ll bring
• Scalable Data Pipeline & Warehouse Architecture: Substantial professional experience designing, building, and maintaining scalable data engineering pipelines, ELT workflows, and cloud data warehouse architectures.
• Operational Resource Stewardship & Query Tuning: Proven track record of commercial stewardship, evaluating compute resource consumption, refactoring complex database queries, and delivering operational cost savings.
• Database Scripting & Automated Orchestration: Advanced technical expertise utilising relational and non-relational database engines, cloud data platforms, advanced SQL scripting, and automated data orchestration frameworks.
• Cross-Border Collaboration & Technical Mentorship: Established capability in peer coaching and technical advisory, guiding junior engineers, explaining complex data architectures clearly, and driving cross-functional alignment across onshore and offshore delivery teams. Pipeline Engineering & Data Integration (Technical)
• Data Pipeline Engineering: Ability to build and maintain automated extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) workflows to transfer data between environments.
• Data Integration Design: Ability to design and define effective methods and architectural patterns for integrating data from disparate sources, encompassing batch, micro-batch, and real-time data streaming approaches.



Database Querying & Infrastructure Design (Technical)
• SQL Querying: Ability to write scripts to retrieve, filter, aggregate, and manipulate data from relational databases.
• Infrastructure Design: Ability to create architectural blueprints defining how enterprise data is structurally stored, integrated, and accessed. Adaptive Problem Solving & Strategic Communication (Adaptive & Leadership)
• Problem Solving: Ability to identify problems, evaluate options, and implement solutions through a logical approach.
