About the Role

We’re looking for a backend engineer with strong, hands-on AWS experience to own our cloud infrastructure and backend systems. You’ll be the go-to person for how our platforms are architected, deployed, secured and scaled, working closely with our Tech Lead on architectural direction. Frontend experience is welcome, but this role is primarily backend and cloud.

What You’ll Achieve in Your First 6 Months

- Take full ownership of our AWS environments (production, staging and sandbox) and the infrastructure-as-code behind them
- Build or improve our model for deploying into customer-owned AWS accounts
- Strengthen our monitoring, alerting, backup and disaster recovery setup
- Lead or support at least one enterprise customer’s technical and security review

What You’ll Do

Cloud architecture and infrastructure

- Design, build and operate our AWS infrastructure for both company-managed SaaS and dedicated customer deployments
- Recommend improvements in scalability, reliability, security and cost
- Maintain infrastructure as code and CI/CD pipelines for consistent, repeatable deployments
- Implement strong security practices: IAM, network design, encryption, secrets management and audit logging
- Produce clear architecture documentation and diagrams for internal teams and customers




- Work with customer IT teams during onboarding and security reviews

Backend development
- Design, build and maintain scalable backend services and APIs
- Build secure, well-documented integrations with enterprise systems
- Design data models and reliable workflows for high volumes of product and operational data
- Write clean, tested, maintainable code and take part in code reviews

Collaboration
- Work closely with the Tech Lead, frontend, product and customer-facing teams
- Mentor junior engineers and help raise engineering standards
- Evaluate current tools and recommend what fits our needs

Must Have

- 3–5 years of software engineering experience, mainly backend, including at least 2 years of hands-on AWS work in production
- Strong backend skills in Node.js, Python or similar
- Experience designing cloud architectures, not only operating them
- Production experience with Terraform, AWS CDK or CloudFormation
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and containers (Docker; ECS, EKS or similar)
- Solid understanding of cloud security best practices
- Ability to explain technical decisions clearly to technical and non-technical people

Good to Have

- Experience with relational and NoSQL databases at scale
- Experience with multi-tenant or single-tenant SaaS, or deploying into customer-owned cloud accounts
- Event-driven architectures and message queues
- Exposure to regulated industries, GDPR or ISO 27001
- Working knowledge of React
- Experience in an early-stage or fast-growing product company
