About the role

As the senior technical member of the Woolworths Data Platform team, the Lead Cloud Engineer: Information management sets the technical direction and engineering standards across Data and Analytics portfolio, and leads the architectural shift toward managing and delivering services as code and managing the Woolworths Data Platform. The role combines setting Architectural vision and enabling the Data Platform to enterprise scale. Deep technical mastery with broad influence, ensuring the services in the Woolworths data Platform are secure, resilient, cost-effective, and engineered to a consistently high standard.

The Lead Cloud Engineer is the definitive technical escalation point, shapes the Data and Analytics Platform engineering strategy and roadmap, and uplifts the technical capability of engineers across the tower in service of the broader Woolworths Group. This includes:

- Executing the technical strategy, architecture, and engineering standards across the Data and Analytics portfolio.
- Leading the design of the code supply chain — infrastructure-as-code, automated publishing, and product-as-code — that underpins the future operating model.
- Acting as the deepest technical authority and escalation point for complex problems.
- Coaching and uplifting engineers across multiple teams.
- Partnering with the Head Of and Platform Managers to shape strategy and roadmap.
- Driving cross-tower and enterprise technical alignment and innovation.

What you’ll do

- Set and own the technical direction, and engineering standards across the Woolworths Data platform.
- Lead the design of the code as infrastructure-as-code, configuration-as-code, automated build/test/release/publishing, and product-as-code — that underpins the operating model.
- Champion the principle that products carry their own verification (smoke tests and health assertions), keeping correctness and embed this across the tower's engineering practice.
- Define reusable patterns, frameworks, and reference architectures that raise delivery automation maturity and consistency across teams.




- Act as the definitive technical escalation point for the tower's most complex and critical engineering and operational problems, leading root-cause analysis and systemic remediation.
- Own the engineering view of resilience, performance, security, and DR across the tower's services, ensuring they are designed in.
- Partner with Product owners to shape technical strategy, multi-year roadmaps, and engineering priorities, advising on trade-offs, risk, and feasibility.
- Provide technical leadership, coaching, and mentoring to Senior Engineers, Engineers and Associate Cloud Engineers in the team.
- Lead and influence cross-tower and enterprise technical initiatives, standards, and architecture decisions.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and practices, guiding their adoption to keep the tower's services modern and competitive.
- Ensure engineering work aligns with and helps shape Cyber, Risk, Architecture, and Service Management standards.
- Represent the tower's technical interests with enterprise architecture, vendor partners, and senior stakeholders.

What you’ll bring

- 6+ years' experience in the Data and Analytics domain, with demonstrated technical seniority and depth.
- Proven track record in managing tools in a complex - Data and Analytics environment
- Deep, hands-on expertise in using Google Cloud platform and Visualisation, Reporting technology stack (Tableau, Google Looker and SAP Business Objects)
- Demonstrated experience designing code, delivery automation, or product-as-code models.
- Experience defining engineering standards, reference architectures, and best practice adopted across teams.
- Experience coaching and uplifting senior engineers and influencing technical strategy.
- Experience partnering with senior leadership to shape multi-year technical roadmaps.
- Relevant tertiary qualification and/or advanced industry certifications,



or equivalent deep practical experience.
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical change and transformation across complex environments.
