About the role
We are looking for an On-Premises Implementation Engineer with hands-on Linux administration and Docker deployment experience. You will install, configure, upgrade and hand over our product on customer-owned servers, including restricted and air-gapped environments, within agreed timelines. This is a customer-facing engineering role.
You will assess client infrastructure readiness, deploy the product using Docker and Docker Compose, integrate it with the client’s network, security and identity controls, and support the environment after go-live until it is stable and formally handed over.
What you will do
- Review customer infrastructure against product prerequisites: server sizing, OS version, storage, ports, DNS, certificates and firewall rules
- Prepare checklists, deployment plans and implementation schedules for customer IT teams
- Validate server readiness before deployment, including patch level, disk layout, time sync and proxy connectivity
- Install, configure and harden Linux servers (RHEL, Rocky Linux, Ubuntu, Oracle Linux)
- Manage users, sudo access, SSH keys, permissions, systemd services, cron jobs and log rotation
- Configure LVM, filesystems, NFS shares and storage for application data and backups
- Configure networking, firewalld/iptables and SELinux/AppArmor in line with customer security standards
- Install Docker Engine and Docker Compose on customer servers, including offline installation
- Deploy, configure and upgrade the product stack using Compose files, environment files and scripts
- Set up local image registries and move images into air-gapped environments using docker save/load or registry mirroring
- Configure Docker networking, volumes, restart policies,
resource limits and log drivers
- Troubleshoot container start-up failures, image pull issues, port conflicts, storage and permission errors and inter-service connectivity
- Configure reverse proxies and load balancers (Nginx, HAProxy, Apache) and install SSL/TLS certificates from customer CAs
- Integrate the product with customer databases, SMTP, LDAP/Active Directory and SSO providers such as Keycloak
- Set up and verify PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB and Redis when hosted alongside the product
- Plan and run upgrades and patch releases with documented rollback steps and minimal downtime
- Configure backup and restore for application data, databases and Docker volumes, and test restores periodically
- Provide L2 support for deployed environments, including root cause analysis and resolution within SLAs
- Escalate and close product defects with internal development and product teams
- Write installation guides, as-built documents, runbooks and handover notes for each customer
- Run handover and knowledge-transfer sessions for customer IT and operations teams
- Keep an accurate record of each customer’s deployed version, configuration and change history
What you bring
- 2 to 3 years of hands-on experience in Linux administration and Docker-based deployment, ideally in product implementation or customer-facing roles
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT or equivalent practical experience
- Linux (must have): robust command line skills on RHEL, Rocky or Ubuntu, including dnf/yum, apt, systemd, permissions, LVM, networking, firewalld/iptables, SELinux and log analysis
- Docker (must have): Docker Engine and Compose in production, image management, volumes, networks, private registries, offline image transfer and container troubleshooting
- Web and proxy services: Nginx, HAProxy or Apache, plus SSL/TLS installation and troubleshooting
- Scripting: Bash for installation and operational automation. Python is an advantage
- Networking: TCP/IP, DNS, ports, firewalls, proxies and basic troubleshooting (curl, telnet/nc, tcpdump, ss/netstat)
- Databases: working knowledge of PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB or Redis, including install, connectivity, backup and restore
- Support: ticket-based support, root cause analysis and SLA-driven resolution
Good to have
- RHCSA, RHCE or LFCS; Docker Certified Associate
- Experience deploying into air-gapped or highly restricted customer networks
- Ansible for repeatable server preparation and deployment
- Monitoring exposure: Prometheus, Grafana, Zabbix or Loki
- Keycloak, LDAP/Active Directory or SSO configuration
- Familiarity with CIS Benchmarks for Linux and Docker
How you work
- Clear, professional communication with customer IT teams, including non-technical stakeholders
- Structured troubleshooting under time pressure during go-live windows
- Ownership of each implementation from readiness through handover
- Willingness to travel to customer sites and support deployments outside business hours when required
