Engineering Manager
Woolworths Group India is partnering exclusively with Zinnov Group to recruit for this position.
About the role The Engineering Manager, Data Products is a pivotal operational and people leadership role within the Global Capability Centre (GCC), responsible for the coordination, planning, and resource management of the data products engineering squads. This role provides direct line management and coaching to approximately seven Lead Engineers, each of whom runs a dedicated squad engineering data pipelines, products, and solutions (utilizing Google Cloud Platform/BigQuery, Apache Airflow, Dataform, Python, SQL, Cloud Functions, etc.) to establish and maintain a single source of enterprise truth for various business data domains.
The primary focus of this role is to drive on-time, orchestrated delivery, manage engineering resource allocations, track delivery risks and issues, and build compelling career pathways and training plans for engineers across the squads. While not directly responsible for setting technical or coding standards, the Engineering Manager ensures consistent execution and operational excellence in the GCC by closely collaborating with onshore and offshore leadership, as well as operations and support teams.
What you’ll do
Delivery & Operational Orchestration
- Coordinate and Plan Engineering Delivery: Direct the planning, scheduling, and resource allocation of data engineers across multiple data product squads to ensure on-time delivery of business-critical data changes and solutions.
- Orchestrate Delivery Across Squads: Manage delivery execution across all seven squads, ensuring consistent execution, minimizing team friction, and standardizing agile pipeline delivery processes.
- Track Risks, Issues & Dependencies: Proactively identify, monitor, and mitigate delivery risks, roadblocks, and cross-team dependencies. Act as the primary escalation point for delivery and team constraints.
- Support Operational Excellence: Consult and collaborate with operational and support teams to prioritize problem management, resolve technical debt, and ensure stable, resilient production operations.
People & Capability Management
- Lead and Develop Lead Engineers: Provide direct management, mentorship, and leadership coaching to your ~7 Lead Engineers,
enabling them to lead their respective squads effectively.
- Design Career & Learning Pathways: Partner with HR and technical leads to build compelling career development plans, training frameworks, and structured skill-progression pathways for engineers within the GCC.
- Manage Capacity & Talent Pipeline: Forecast future resource demands, manage squad capacity, and oversee recruitment, onboarding, and capability retention strategies in India.
- Cultivate an Excellence Culture: Foster an inclusive, high-performing culture centered on curiosity, continuous learning, accountability, and psychological safety.
Strategic Collaboration & Alignment
- Partner with Leadership Teams: Work in lockstep with the Head of Data Engineering, Head of Data Products, Head of Data Platform, and Senior Manager of Operations to align engineering capacity with overall business priorities and strategic roadmaps.
- Champion GCC Value: Showcase the technical capabilities and delivery achievements of the India-based squads, facilitating close collaboration and seamless integration with onshore teams.
What you’ll bring
Essential

- Proven experience in managing performance, career pathing, and professional development programs for technical staff.
- Familiarity with data platform technology environments (preferably GCP/BigQuery-based environments, ETL/ELT pipelines, and data orchestration tools).
Desirable
- Experience in retail, supply chain, e-commerce,
or fast-moving consumer goods.
- Hands-on history in data engineering or software development prior to transition to management.
- Familiarity with agile methodologies, Scrum frameworks, or Jira/Confluence tracking models.
