Ansible SME

Role Purpose
Provide deep Ansible engineering expertise to establish automation standards and convert the existing Chef automation estate into production-quality Ansible assets.

Key Responsibilities

- Design and develop Ansible playbooks, roles and collections.
- Analyze Chef cookbooks and define equivalent Ansible implementation patterns.
- Support automated and AI-assisted Chef-to-Ansible conversion.
- Review converted assets and perform required engineering/remediation.
- Build reusable automation for OS hardening, provisioning, agent deployment and configuration management.
- Support Linux and Windows automation.
- Develop standards for variables, inventories, dependencies and reusable content.
- Troubleshoot complex Ansible execution and migration issues.




- Conduct peer/code reviews and establish Ansible engineering quality standards.
- Mentor migration factory engineers.

Required Skills

- Deep hands-on Ansible engineering.
- Solid YAML, Python and shell/PowerShell scripting skills.
- Linux and/or Windows configuration automation.
- Git-based source control and CI/CD integration.
- API/integration automation experience.
- Infrastructure/configuration management experience.
- Chef/Ruby experience strongly preferred because the source estate contains ~1,600 Chef cookbooks.

Preferred: Relevant Red Hat Ansible certification where available.
