Ballygunge

About the opportunity

We are preparing a community education initiative in Ballygunge to support children’s education, women’s education and adult literacy.

We are looking for ten confident, respectful and reliable field fundraisers to visit local shops and businesses, introduce the proposed initiative and identify potential sponsors.

The initiative is independent and nonpartisan. Our outreach must remain inclusive and respectful towards people of all religions, backgrounds and political affiliations.

Responsibilities

- Visit shops, offices and local businesses within assigned areas of Ballygunge.
- Meet owners, managers or other people authorised to discuss sponsorship.
- Explain the initiative accurately using approved information and materials.
- Discuss potential financial sponsorship, educational supplies, printing support, meals, learning spaces and other useful contributions.
- Identify interested sponsors and arrange follow-up calls or meetings with the project coordinator.
- Share approved project information with business owners who agree to receive it.
- Maintain accurate daily records of visits, responses, interested contacts and agreed next steps.
- Follow up with interested businesses respectfully, without repeated unwanted contact.
- Attend briefing sessions and provide a short daily progress update.
- Refer questions about registration, funding arrangements, receipts or programme delivery to the coordinator.

This role involves sponsorship outreach, not household surveying or political campaigning.

Candidate requirements

- Aged 18 or above.
- Explicit spoken Bengali and Hindi; Urdu or English would be an advantage.
- Comfortable speaking with shop owners and business managers.

- Able to explain a proposal clearly and respond professionally to rejection.
- Reliable, punctual and able to work independently in the field.
- Basic smartphone skills for recording visits and communicating with the coordinator.
- Willingness to follow an approved pitch and maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to travel within the assigned local area.

No specific degree is required. Relevant communication skills, reliability and practical experience will be prioritised.

Preferred experience

Experience in one or more of the following would be useful:

- NGO fundraising or donor outreach.
- Shop-to-shop sales.
- Merchant acquisition or business development.
- Local sponsorship acquisition.
- Community outreach or field promotions.

Freshers with strong communication skills may also apply.

Pay and expenses

- This is a paid opportunity, including the initial five-day trial.
- Fixed pay, payment dates, working hours and travel reimbursement will be agreed in writing before work starts.
- Any performance incentive will be explained and agreed in writing in advance.
- Continued engagement after the trial will depend on performance, project requirements and available funding.
- No application fee, security deposit or paid training purchase is required.

Working arrangements

The role requires visiting businesses in person within Ballygunge. Exact routes, daily hours,

working days and reporting arrangements will be agreed before joining.

Selected candidates will receive a project briefing, an approved sponsorship pitch, outreach materials and a daily reporting format.

Fundraising standards

- Introduce yourself and the initiative honestly.
- Clearly explain that the initiative is currently proposed and under proposed formation.
- Do not claim government affiliation, completed registration, tax exemption or confirmed services unless the coordinator provides verified authorisation.
- Do not promise sponsorship benefits or commit project funds without approval.
- Do not pressure shopkeepers or continue contacting anyone who declines.
- Do not receive contributions into your personal bank account or UPI ID.
- Contribution payments, agreements and receipts will be handled by the project coordinator through documented arrangements.
- Keep business contacts and sponsor information confidential.

What success looks like

We will assess the quality of conversations, accuracy of reporting, genuine sponsor interest, follow-up appointments and professional conduct. The number of visits alone will not determine performance.
