Shadow Teacher – Pediatric & Educational Support

About the Role

We are looking for two confident, warm and well-spoken Shadow Teachers to support children in school settings and help them participate more independently in their daily academic and social environment.

The ideal candidate should have strong English communication skills, a natural ability to connect with children, and a willingness to learn. We are looking for someone who can understand a child rather than simply instruct or repeatedly prompt them to complete tasks.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide individual support to a child within the school environment
- Help the child participate in classroom activities, routines and transitions
- Support attention, communication, social participation and independence
- Assist the child with classroom tasks without unnecessarily doing the work for them
- Encourage appropriate behaviour and self-regulation using positive strategies
- Support participation in play, group activities and peer interactions
- Observe the child's needs and communicate relevant observations appropriately
- Work collaboratively with parents, teachers and the supervising professional
- Maintain professionalism, confidentiality and appropriate boundaries
- Follow guidance and strategies provided by the supervising therapist/educator
- Maintain simple records or notes when required

- Good understanding of child behaviour and development
- Ability to think on your feet and adapt activities or strategies
- Patient and respectful approach rather than forceful or mechanical teaching
- Willingness to learn and receive supervision
- Qualified, reliable and consistent in attendance
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates with a background in Psychology, Special Education, Occupational Therapy, Speech & Language, Early Childhood Education or related fields may be preferred.

Previous experience as a shadow teacher, learning support assistant, special educator, behaviour therapist or child-development professional is an advantage.

Important

This role is not simply academic tutoring. We are looking for someone who can support the child's overall participation, independence, regulation, communication and engagement within the school environment.

Training and guidance will be provided based on the child's individual needs and the therapeutic approach followed by the supervising professional.
