About SBS SBS is a global financial technology company and an independently operated portfolio company of 74Software, an enterprise software group focused on mission-critical products and durable customer outcomes. SBS provides composable, cloud-based software across banking, lending, compliance, payments, consumer and asset finance. This role sits within the SBS India engineering team in Noida and contributes directly to the evolution of Digital Core and Payments. Role Summary We are seeking a highly experienced, hands-on Senior Software Architect to shape SBS Digital Core, a strategic product AI Native Core Banking System spanning account and deposit management, product and pricing, payment processing and financial-crime controls. This is a senior technical leadership role, but not a hands-off advisory role: you will be expected to guide architecture, reduce technical debt, coach engineers and still personally produce deliverable engineering outcomes using modern tools, including approved AI coding assistants such as Claude, Codex and comparable enterprise-approved models. You will combine banking-domain depth, product architecture and hands-on engineering to turn complex banking, payments, regulatory and operational requirements into reusable, cloud-native capabilities incl. AI Use cases. The mandate is to build differentiated software that can scale across customers, markets and deployment models while enabling banks to modernise progressively. AI is part of the engineering method: use approved frontier and code-generation models such as Claude, Codex and comparable enterprise tools to accelerate architecture exploration, solution design, coding, testing and documentation. The expectation is not only to recommend direction, but to convert that direction into reviewed code, reference implementations, tests, migration patterns and working technical assets, while retaining human accountability, security controls and rigorous review. Why This Role Matters Build a strategic growth platform. Digital Core sit at the centre of SBS's move towards AI native modular products, SaaS expansion and a more recurring, scalable software model. Your work will help protect trusted customer relationships while creating reusable capabilities for new growth. Engineer mission-critical banking. Shape the systems that manage accounts, deposits, product and pricing rules, real-time transactions and the full payment lifecycle, where availability, correctness, security and auditability are non-negotiable while providing AI capabilities to our customers Create reusable product value. Design capabilities once and make them reusable across markets, deployment models and SBS products, reducing duplication while accelerating customer outcomes. Turn the digital core into an intelligent core. Embed governed AI, real-time data and automation into core operations so banks can improve decisions, service and operational efficiency without sacrificing deterministic controls. Influence a visible transformation. Work where product strategy, R&D; focus, early-adopter delivery and engineering execution meet. Your architectural decisions will shape a flagship platform within SBS .
Key Responsibilities
Architect distributed platforms. Design high-availability, cloud-native SaaS solutions using microservices, event-driven architecture and well-defined domain boundaries. Lead hands-on engineering. Write and review production code, reference implementations and reusable components for secure, resilient and maintainable services. Apply AI-assisted engineering. Use the latest approved AI models and coding assistants to produce and compare design options, draft architecture decision records, generate and refactor code, create tests, explain legacy code and improve technical documentation. Engineer responsibly with AI. Define prompts, context, evaluation criteria and review gates. Validate generated outputs for correctness, security, performance, licensing, privacy, bias and maintainability. Never expose confidential data to unapproved services. Convert architecture into deliverables. Personally produce hands-on outputs such as prototype services, reference implementations, proof points, migration utilities, test suites, performance experiments, code reviews and technical documentation that teams can adopt directly. Own banking-domain architecture. Translate the semantics and controls of deposits, account management, product and pricing, payment processing, into clear domain models, APIs, events and invariants Enable progressive modernisation. Design coexistence and migration patterns that allow banks to introduce modular capabilities, run new and legacy services side by side and move products and customers at a controlled pace. Own non-functional architecture. Drive performance, scalability, availability, observability, recoverability, maintainability and security from design through production. Shape cloud-native delivery. Leverage Kubernetes and AWS services; guide containerisation, deployment topology, configuration, secrets and release patterns. Embed quality and DevSecOps. Promote TDD, contract testing, automated quality controls, threat modelling and efficient CI/CD practices. Influence technical direction. Define and challenge application design strategies, standards, guardrails and effective development workflows. Collaborate and communicate. Work with product, business, security, architecture and engineering stakeholders, and present complex decisions clearly. Lead technical change management. Help teams adapt to AI-assisted engineering and modern delivery practices by setting examples, creating guardrails, running enablement sessions and building confidence in new ways of working. Build a strong technical bench. Raise the engineering bar through hiring input, interviewing, coaching, mentoring and succession planning, creating a team of strong technical people around the role rather than becoming a single point of dependency. Core Technical Skills Backend engineering: Expert-level Java,
including modern Java versions and solid Spring Boot experience; reactive programming and Spring WebFlux are advantageous. Architecture: Distributed systems, Domain-Driven Design, Event-Driven Architecture, microservices, APIs and SaaS product architecture. Data and messaging: SQL and NoSQL technologies such as PostgreSQL, MongoDB and Redis; event streaming with Kafka. Cloud and platform: AWS, Kubernetes, Docker and Helm; GitLab CI and Argo CD experience is valuable. Quality engineering: JUnit, TDD, Spring Cloud Contract, automated integration and performance testing; K6 experience is advantageous. Front end and data processing: Working knowledge of TypeScript and Angular; Apache Spark exposure is beneficial. Security and compliance: Secure-by-design architecture, threat modelling, identity, data protection and financial-services regulatory expectations. AI engineering: Practical experience with enterprise-approved generative AI and coding assistants for architecture, code and test generation; ability to evaluate model outputs and design safe human-in-the-loop workflows. Hands-on delivery credibility: Proven record of remaining close to code and delivery while operating at senior architect level; comfortable producing tangible engineering assets rather than limiting contribution to strategy, reviews or governance. Qualifications
Experience:
10+ years in software engineering within large product teams, including 5+ years of hands-on design responsibility for complex distributed solutions.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience. Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams, influence decisions, resolve complex architectural challenges and communicate with senior stakeholders while staying close enough to implementation to unblock delivery and model excellent engineering practice. Domain: Experience in fintech, banking or payments, with an understanding of financial-sector security and compliance. AI fluency: Evidence of using modern AI models to improve architecture and engineering outcomes, combined with disciplined verification, secure data handling and measurable quality controls. Change agent: Experience helping engineering teams adopt new tools, AI-assisted workflows, modern development practices and higher standards through coaching, hands-on examples and pragmatic guardrails. Mindset: Curiosity, sound judgement, continuous learning and a track record of introducing valuable technology without compromising product quality. What Drives Our Teams We build mission-critical software with a long-term product mindset. Digital Core combines the scale and rigour of core banking with the pace of a modern software platform: modular architecture, API-first integration, real-time processing, cloud-native delivery, deep regulatory awareness and responsible AI. Architects are expected to contribute directly to code and design, simplify complexity, create reusable capabilities, coach others into stronger engineering habits and lead the change towards AI-enabled ways of working that improve customer outcomes across markets.
