About the role
We’re looking for a Staff Engineer to own distributed backend and data systems supporting frontier AI research. You’ll build petabyte-scale ingestion and processing platforms from the ground up, lead critical technical workstreams, and help raise the engineering bar across the team. This role requires deep distributed-systems expertise, broad backend judgment, and the ability to become effective quickly in evolving technical domains. You’ll remain hands-on while mentoring engineers, removing delivery blockers, and taking complex systems from loosely defined problems to reliable production operation. What you'll own
• Design and build reliable distributed backend systems that process large, complex datasets.
• Own petabyte-scale data flows spanning ingestion, transformation, storage, and movement across the platform.
• Establish new services, engineering processes, and technical foundations from the ground up.
• Build data infrastructure and environments used in frontier AI research.




• Lead technical workstreams from problem definition and architecture through deployment and production operation.
• Make high-impact architectural decisions while balancing scalability, reliability, correctness, and delivery speed.
• Mentor engineers, review technical work, and remove blockers without stepping away from hands-on system ownership. What we're looking for
• Significant hands-on experience designing, building, and operating distributed systems in production.
• Experience working with petabyte-scale data, with a transparent understanding of storage, processing, performance, and reliability trade-offs.
• A track record of creating systems and processes from zero to one in environments with limited existing infrastructure.
• Backend and platform experience extending beyond conventional ETL pipelines.
• Strong technical judgment across system design, distributed processing, failure handling, and production operations.
• The ability to learn unfamiliar domains quickly and deliver while requirements and technical context continue to evolve.
• Experience leading engineering workstreams, mentoring engineers, and unblocking teams while retaining direct technical ownership.
