Role: VP, Product Engineering (Java)

Experience: 12- 20 Years

Job Location: Mumbai

Key Responsibilities: Engineering Leadership & Strategy

- Lead, mentor and provide day-to-day technical direction to a team of Java engineers, technical leads and architects.
- Remain hands-on in solution design, critical implementation decisions, code reviews, troubleshooting and technical delivery.
- Translate product and business requirements into practical architecture, engineering plans and delivery commitments.
- Establish coding standards, design principles, review practices and engineering governance across the development lifecycle.
- Build team capability through coaching, delegation, technical knowledge-sharing and ownership of outcomes.

Architecture & Technology

- Architect and develop scalable, high-throughput, low-latency and highly available Java applications.
- Provide deep technical leadership in Core Java, multithreading, concurrency, JVM behavior, Spring Boot, Spring Framework and microservices.




- Design distributed transaction systems that handle high request volumes while preserving consistency, resilience, security and performance.
- Drive API design, asynchronous and event-driven processing, caching, database architecture, messaging and service integration.
- Guide application modernization and resolve complex architecture, scalability and production engineering challenges.

DevOps, Cloud & Observability (Added Advantage)

- Understanding of modern DevOps practices, including CI/CD, automated quality gates, Infrastructure as Code and progressive delivery.
- Experience deploying and operating containerized Java workloads using Docker, Kubernetes and AWS EKS.
- Working knowledge of EKS deployment patterns, autoscaling, configuration, secrets, service networking and production support.
- Understanding of centralized logging, metrics, distributed tracing, dashboards and alerting for effective observability.
- Ability to use operational telemetry to diagnose failures, improve reliability and support capacity and performance decisions.

High-Performance Engineering

- Apply proven experience in high-transaction systems to improve response time, throughput, concurrency and resource utilization.
- Identify and resolve bottlenecks across Java services, JVM, databases, APIs, messaging, caching and infrastructure.
- Define performance benchmarks, load and stress-testing strategies, capacity models and service level objectives.
- Design for fault tolerance, graceful degradation, idempotency, retry control and resilience under peak load.
- Ensure code quality, automated testing, secure engineering and production readiness for every release. Security & Engineering Quality
- Champion secure-by-design engineering across architecture, coding, APIs, cloud infrastructure, and the software supply chain.
- Embed DevSecOps practices and security controls throughout the software development lifecycle (SDLC).
- Drive timely vulnerability remediation and clear engineering ownership of security findings.
- Establish strong controls around open-source dependencies, secrets, APIs, build pipelines, and production environments.
- Partner with security teams to continuously strengthen application and platform security. People & Stakeholder Management




- Lead and develop a strong engineering team while remaining accountable for technical outcomes and delivery quality.
- Mentor engineers and technical leads through design reviews, code reviews, problem-solving and structured feedback.
- Plan team capacity, allocate work, remove technical blockers and maintain realistic delivery commitments.
- Collaborate effectively with Product, QA, Security, DevOps and business stakeholders.
- Communicate architecture decisions, delivery status, risks and production concerns clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Required Skills & Experience:

- 12+ years of software engineering experience, including substantial hands-on Java development and technical leadership.
- Proven experience leading engineering teams, mentoring developers and owning delivery of business-critical systems.
- Strong expertise in Core Java, Spring Boot, microservices, REST APIs and distributed system architecture.
- Demonstrable experience designing, developing and supporting high-volume, high-throughput transaction systems.
- Strong knowledge of concurrency, multithreading, JVM tuning, performance optimization, databases, caching and messaging.
- Experience diagnosing complex production issues and improving scalability, reliability, resilience and security.
- Strong technical judgement, problem-solving, communication and stakeholder-management skills.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or a related discipline.

Preferred Qualifications / Added Advantages

- Experience in product-based technology organisations, enterprise SaaS, financial services or other transaction-intensive environments.
- Experience with event-driven architecture and messaging technologies such as Kafka or equivalent platforms.
- Understanding of AWS, Docker, Kubernetes and operating modernized Java workloads on EKS.
- Exposure to CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, automated deployment and DevSecOps practices.
- Experience with logging, metrics, tracing, monitoring and observability platforms, including production dashboards and alerting.
