About the role

We’re looking for a Staff Engineer to own distributed backend and data systems supporting frontier AI research.

You’ll build petabyte-scale ingestion and processing platforms from the ground up, lead critical technical workstreams, and help raise the engineering bar across the team. This role requires deep distributed-systems expertise, broad backend judgment, and the ability to become effective quickly in evolving technical domains.

You’ll remain hands-on while mentoring engineers, removing delivery blockers, and taking complex systems from loosely defined problems to reliable production operation.

What you'll own

- Design and build reliable distributed backend systems that process large, complex datasets.
- Own petabyte-scale data flows spanning ingestion, transformation, storage, and movement across the platform.
- Establish new services, engineering processes, and technical foundations from the ground up.
- Build data infrastructure and environments used in frontier AI research.




- Lead technical workstreams from problem definition and architecture through deployment and production operation.
- Make high-impact architectural decisions while balancing scalability, reliability, correctness, and delivery speed.
- Mentor engineers, review technical work, and remove blockers without stepping away from hands-on system ownership.

What we're looking for

- Significant hands-on experience designing, building, and operating distributed systems in production.
- Experience working with petabyte-scale data, with a transparent understanding of storage, processing, performance, and reliability trade-offs.
- A track record of creating systems and processes from zero to one in environments with limited existing infrastructure.
- Backend and platform experience extending beyond conventional ETL pipelines.
- Strong technical judgment across system design, distributed processing, failure handling, and production operations.
- The ability to learn unfamiliar domains quickly and deliver while requirements and technical context continue to evolve.
- Experience leading engineering workstreams, mentoring engineers, and unblocking teams while retaining direct technical ownership.
