ROLE PURPOSE DISCIPLINE Mechanical The Senior Team Leader - Mechanical will lead a team providing mechanical engineering, construction support, and project-management support for US-based construction projects from the Mumbai or Bengaluru office. The role is accountable for high-quality delivery across HVAC and ventilation, ductwork, plumbing and drainage, fire protection, mechanical document control, RFIs and submittals, constructability reviews, procurement support, project closeout, budgeting, risk mitigation, scheduling, safety, and commercial administration. The position requires strong technical knowledge of HVAC and ventilation systems, ductwork, plumbing and drainage, fire-protection systems, mechanical piping, pumps, fans, air-handling equipment, testing, TAB, commissioning, and system turnover.
The incumbent will plan resources; review drawings, specifications, calculations, schedules, shop drawings, and technical submittals; resolve technical issues; monitor team performance; and collaborate with US project teams, designers, trade partners, and vendors
Team Leadership and Delivery Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop mechanical engineers and project support professionals working on US-based projects. • Plan and allocate resources based on HVAC, ventilation, plumbing, drainage, and fire-protection scope, technical complexity, RFI and submittal volumes, procurement priorities, and delivery schedules. • Assign clear system ownership, review responsibilities, performance expectations, and delivery timelines to team members.
- Monitor productivity, technical quality, utilization, and milestone performance through regular team meetings, technical reviews, one-to-one discussions, and performance evaluations. • Develop team capability in mechanical construction, US codes and standards, technical submittals, testing, TAB, commissioning, and project closeout. Promote accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement, and serve as the primary escalation point for mechanical engineering and project-delivery issues.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, and integration of mechanical team members, as required. | Mechanical Engineering and Technical Oversight • Provide technical leadership for HVAC and ventilation systems, ductwork, plumbing and drainage, fire-protection systems,
mechanical piping, and associated installation and turnover activities. • Review mechanical drawings, specifications, basis-of-design documents, mechanical schedules, load, airflow, and pressure calculations, duct and piping layouts, riser diagrams, and schematics for accuracy, constructability, maintainability, and compliance.
- Review mechanical material and product submittals, shop drawings, method statements, installation sequences, and vendor technical data for completeness and compliance with project requirements.
- Guide the team in interpreting contract documents and applicable US mechanical, plumbing, fire-protection, energy, ventilation, and indoor-air-quality requirements.
- Develop and review RFIs, shop drawings, product data, method statements, technical queries, and value-engineering proposals; provide technically sound recommendations before submission to the design team. • Review testing, balancing, pressure-testing, flushing, start-up, commissioning, and system-turnover requirements.
- Review mechanical installation requirements, access provisions, service clearances, sleeves, and openings, and communicate technical requirements to architectural, structural, and electrical teams. Monitor procurement and long-lead items for mechanical materials and equipment, and maintain accurate HVAC, plumbing, fire-protection, RFI, submittal, material, testing, and commissioning registers using standardized QA/QC checklists.
Project Closeout • Lead the closeout process for HVAC, ventilation, plumbing, drainage, fire-protection, and associated mechanical scopes.
- Establish system-based closeout plans, responsibilities, trackers, submission schedules, and quality requirements, and ensure required data is assembled for client turnover.
- Oversee record drawings, operation and maintenance manuals, warranties, start-up sheets, pressure-test records, duct-leakage test records, flushing reports,
TAB reports, commissioning records, and training materials.
- Verify mechanical asset tags, manufacturer references, serial numbers, spare parts, attic stock, recommended maintenance information, and client-training requirements.
- Collaborate with project teams, commissioning agents, and trade partners to resolve missing or non-compliant closeout deliverables.
- Monitor system turnover and closeout progress, ensure contractual timelines are met, and capture lessons learned for future projects.
In-depth understanding of HVAC and ventilation systems, ductwork, plumbing and drainage, fire-protection systems, mechanical piping, installation practices, and system turnover.
- Working knowledge of relevant US mechanical and building-services codes and standards, including ASHRAE, SMACNA, NFPA, IMC, IPC, energy-code, and ventilation requirements.
- Ability to review load, airflow, and pressure calculations, duct and pipe sizing, mechanical schedules, material submittals, shop drawings, TAB plans, testing records, and commissioning documentation.
- Strong capability in constructability reviews, mechanical drawing and specification reviews, installation sequencing, field issue resolution, access provisions, and maintenance-clearance reviews.
- Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop mechanical engineering teams and manage technical reviews and escalations.
- Strong project planning, resource allocation, delegation, schedule control, and performance-management skills.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, decision-making, problem-solving, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Strong stakeholder-management, negotiation, value-engineering, commercial-awareness, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Detail-oriented and team-oriented, with a focus on technical quality, safety, constructability, maintainability, and continuous improvement.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; working knowledge of Procore, ACC, Aconex, and SAP is preferred, with Bluebeam exposure advantageous. Work from the Mumbai or Bengaluru office and provide US working-hour overlap when required.
