About the role The Senior Cloud Engineer is a hands-on technical specialist responsible for the day-to-day operation, support, and continued build-out of Acora's RHOSO/OpenStack private cloud platform and its Red Hat OpenShift foundation. The role combines platform SLA support,OpenStack/OpenShift engineering, and — for the first year — direct involvement in the VMware-to-OpenStack migration programme.

This is a technical delivery role rather than a people-management role. The postholder is expected to operate to a high standard of independence, given the time-shifted, distributed nature of the team, while remaining closely aligned with the UK Private Cloud Architect and engineering team on standards, priorities, and escalations.

What you'll do

RHOSO / OpenStack Platform Engineering & SLA Support

- Provide hands-on operational support for the RHOSO/OpenStack platform, maintaining agreed Private Cloud SLAs during the postholder's working window
- Own the technical execution of OpenStack component operations — Nova, Cinder, Neutron, Keystone, Glance — including day-to-day configuration, performance tuning, and fault resolution
- Monitor platform health, respond to alerts and incidents, and carry out first-line triage and resolution of OpenStack platform defects, escalating complex or unresolved issues to the UK team and Red Hat support as needed
- Support capacity, patching, and change activity across the RHOSO estate in line with Acora's operational standards and change control process

Red Hat OpenShift Engineering

- Support and troubleshoot the OpenShift/Kubernetes control plane underpinning RHOSO, including pod health, operator reconciliation, certificate management, and upgrade sequencing
- Develop, maintain, and debug YAML manifests and Kubernetes configuration for OpenStack-on-OpenShift service deployments, ensuring changes are version-controlled and reproducible
- Assist with OpenShift cluster operations — namespace management, operator lifecycle management, and cluster health monitoring

VMware-to-OpenStack Migration (Year One Focus)

- Act as a technical resource for the VMware-to-OpenStack migration programme during the postholder's first year, supporting VM conversions, storage migrations, network cutover, and validation testing
- Bring practical knowledge of VMware ESXi or other virtualisation platforms to support workload assessment, migration planning, and post-migration validation
- Work closely with the UK migration team to ensure consistent execution standards and clear handover of in-flight migration tasks across time zones

Networking

- Apply strong networking fundamentals (routing, switching, VLANs)



to the configuration, troubleshooting, and support of OpenStack networking — Neutron, OVN, and related SDN components
- Investigate and resolve network-related platform incidents, including connectivity, routing, and cross-site network issues affecting the private cloud estate

Linux Systems Engineering

- Operate confidently across enterprise Linux environments (RHEL) underpinning the OpenStack control plane and OpenShift nodes, including troubleshooting, patching, and configuration consistency
- Use scripting (Bash and/or Python) and automation tooling to support operational tasks and reduce manual effort

Automation with Ansible

- Develop and maintain Ansible playbooks and roles for configuration management, patching, and deployment automation across the RHOSO/OpenShift estate
- Identify recurring manual operational tasks and automate them, reducing operational toil and improving consistency across time zones
- Ensure Ansible playbooks and related configuration are version-controlled, peer-reviewed, and documented in line with the team's GitOps practices

Independent Operations & Follow-the-Sun Collaboration

- Work effectively and independently during hours when the primary UK team is offline, applying sound judgement on prioritisation and escalation
- Maintain clear, disciplined handover documentation at the start and end of each shift to ensure continuity across time zones
- Contribute to runbooks, knowledge base articles, and platform documentation to support consistent operations across the distributed team

What you'll bring

- Demonstrable experience in a senior infrastructure or cloud platform engineering role, with hands-on OpenStack and/or OpenShift delivery
- Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) or Red Hat Certified Specialist in Cloud Infrastructure (EX210)

OpenStack & OpenShift

- Deep hands-on experience with Red Hat OpenStack Platform / RHOSO, including compute, storage, and network service configuration
- Practical experience with Red Hat OpenShift or Kubernetes — pod management, operator frameworks, YAML manifest authoring and debugging, and cluster health monitoring
- Specific exposure to OpenStack-on-OpenShift (RHOSO or equivalent) deployments, including operator reconciliation and upgrade management, is a solid advantage

Networking

- Strong core networking knowledge — routing, switching, VLANs,



and troubleshooting of complex network issues
- Experience with software-defined networking in an OpenStack context (Neutron, OVN, or equivalent) is highly desirable

Virtualisation & Migration

- Practical experience with VMware ESXi or other hypervisor platforms is a strong bonus, particularly where it supports VMware-to-OpenStack migration work
- Experience with VM conversion, storage migration, and cutover validation is advantageous

Automation & Ansible

- Proficiency in Ansible for configuration management and infrastructure automation — playbook development, role design, inventory management, and idempotent deployment patterns (as validated by the RHCE certification)
- Strong YAML authoring skills — comfortable writing and debugging complex YAML for Ansible playbooks, Kubernetes, and OpenStack configuration
- Familiarity with Git-based version control and infrastructure-as-code practices

Linux Systems

- Advanced RHEL administration — networking, storage, performance tuning, security hardening, and service management
- Scripting capability in Bash and/or Python for operational automation
