Company Description
Exantro is focused on building autonomous drone infrastructure so drones can operate continuously without stopping for power. The team is driven by the belief that the true bottleneck to scaling drone operations is energy availability, not the drones themselves. Exantro engineers stations, batteries, and software that convert individual drone flights into reliable, ongoing services.
You will join our growing Bengaluru hardware team of mechanical and robotics engineers, working closely with our Chief Hardware Officer (CHO). You will take full ownership of mechanisms and enclosures, make design calls with incomplete information, and see your designs survive outdoor field conditions.
What you will work on
- Designing precision mechanisms: alignment and centring systems, actuation, latching and locking, drone-docking interfaces
- Designing enclosures and structures for outdoor deployment (IP54/65/67), including sealing, gaskets, cable glands, drainage and thermal management
- Sizing and selecting motors, actuators, bearings and sensors, backed by hand calculations and FEA
- Tolerance stack-ups, GD&T; and part, assembly and fabrication drawings that vendors can build from
- DFM/DFA and vendor coordination across CNC machining, sheet metal and injection moulding, taking designs from prototype to production
- Planning and running bench, reliability and environmental tests, and iterating on field-trial data
- Participating in Design Reviews and taking full ownership of the sub-system that you are assigned
Qualifications
Must-haves
- 3–4 years of mechanical design experience on electromechanical or robotic systems,
with at least one product that went from prototype to production or the field
- Hands-on experience designing to a defined IP rating: sealing design, gasket selection and compression, connector and cable gland specification, environmental testing
- Mechanism design from first principles: free-body diagrams, load and torque sizing, safety factors, and checking results against test data
- Proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks preferred; Onshape, Fusion 360 or equivalent accepted) and FEA tools (MATLAB, Ansys)
- Solid GD&T; and tolerance stack-up skills, and DFM/DFA across sheet metal, CNC machining and injection moulding
- Comfortable owning work with incomplete specs: writing down assumptions and raising risks early
Nice-to-haves
- Prior startup experience
- Outdoor or weatherproof robotics (agriculture, telecom, EV charging infrastructure, industrial automation)
- Battery handling systems, or drones and UAV hardware
- Motor and actuator selection, including working with electrical engineers on integration
- Complex FDM 3D printing for rapid prototyping
Please include a portfolio or examples of shipped work with your application. Include designs and projects that you previously worked on - which specific part, what your role was, what problems did you face and how did you rectify them.
