Room to Read India

New Delhi

About the Project

Room to Read India is leading a 12-month scoping and planning project (INV-109769) on reading fluency and comprehension in akshara scripts. The project is run by Room to Read India Trust from December 2026 to November 2027. It does not implement a program in schools. It builds the evidence base and a research agenda for the sector.

The work sits within Research and Insights, one of Room to Read's four core competencies, alongside Curriculum and Content, Educator Training and Coaching, and Delivery Structures. Its outputs are an evidence synthesis, a report and research agenda, two roundtables of about 40 participants each, and a dissemination event of about 100 participants. A four-member advisory board validates the findings, and the findings are published openly.

Position Overview:

The Documentation Consultant collates evidence, documents interviews and discussions, and turns research inputs into clear, well-structured materials for the India literacy innovations evidence scoping. The person in this role will support the synthesis of findings, coordinate with experts to set up the interviews and take part in them, prepare materials for the expert review, advisory-board validation, roundtables and dissemination event, and coordinate the project's written outputs so that they are complete, consistent and on time.

This is a full-time, in-office consultancy, reporting to the Research Lead, with oversight from the Senior Lead, IDTS, and working closely with the Research Consultant. It requires occasional travel to document the roundtables and the dissemination of events.

- Handle interview records with confidentiality, and with consent where needed.

Synthesis Support:

- Help the Research Lead and the Research Consultant bring evidence and interview findings together into themes and summaries.
- Check drafts for accuracy, consistency, and referencing against the sources.

Preparation of Research Materials and Outputs:

- Prepare briefing notes, presentations, and participant material for the roundtables and the dissemination event (about 100 participants, Months 11 to 12).
- Edit and format the evidence report and research agenda (Month 10) and the open publication and share-back materials.
- Shape how the findings are read: turn complex evidence into reports and syntheses that are clear, engaging, and the first thing a policymaker or practitioner opens, with formats, summaries and visuals for different readers.
- Prepare the report and research agenda for open, free publication and wide dissemination.

Coordination of Project Outputs:

- Track outputs, drafts and review comments against the Implementation Calendar and flag delays to the Research Lead.
- Keep final versions organized so that Room to Read India can report on them to the donor.
