Highlight of the engagement opportunity

- Nature of role: Full time
- Number of years of experience expected: Typically, 3–5 years in software development, DevOps, build engineering or release engineering
- Hands-on technical contribution: Approximately 60–75%, including automation, pipeline configuration, deployment execution and troubleshooting

About the role

We are looking for a hands-on Build & Release Engineer to improve how we build, version, validate and release software across multiple projects.

You will maintain release visibility, track dependencies and help teams deploy the correct versions with clear validation and recovery steps. You will also improve scripts and CI/CD pipelines to reduce manual work and release errors.

You will work closely with stream leads, developers, testing owners and infrastructure owners.

Key responsibility areas:

Build and release execution

- Maintain release schedules, checklists and deployment instructions.
- Confirm release scope, component owners, prerequisites and target environments.
- Coordinate builds, testing readiness and deployments.
- Record release outcomes and communicate blockers promptly.
- Support patches, hotfixes and emergency releases using agreed procedures.

Versioning and traceability

- Maintain consistent Git tags, release branches and versioning conventions agreed with technical leads.
- Keep release manifests linking commits, component versions and build artifacts.
- Track versions deployed across development, testing, staging and production environments.
- Maintain release notes, known issues and configuration-change records.
- Coordinate hotfix merges and backports with developers.

Dependencies and compatibility

- Track release dependencies across applications, services, APIs, libraries and databases.
- Confirm deployment sequence and prerequisite versions with component owners.
- Flag breaking changes, missing dependencies and incompatible versions.
- Coordinate database migration readiness and configuration changes.
- Keep dependency information current as release scope changes.

Automation and troubleshooting

- Write and maintain scripts for builds, packaging, validation and deployments.
- Improve CI/CD pipelines and automate repetitive release tasks.
- Troubleshoot build failures and deployment or configuration issues.
- Help ensure artifacts are identifiable and reproducible.
- Work with infrastructure owners on environment consistency and deployment access.

Validation and recovery

- Confirm required testing evidence and approvals before a release.
- Ensure deployment checks, monitoring owners and recovery instructions are available.
- Run or coordinate agreed post-deployment checks.
- Support rollback or forward recovery with the relevant engineers.
- Document release problems and implement preventive improvements.

Required skills and experience

- Practical experience with software builds and deployments.
- Strong working knowledge of Git, branches, merges and tags.
- Experience with at least one CI/CD platform, such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins or Azure DevOps.
- Scripting ability in Python, Bash, PowerShell or a comparable language.
- Understanding of environment configuration, secrets handling and artifact management.
- Familiarity with APIs, database migrations and software dependencies.
- Methodical troubleshooting and clear documentation skills.

Preferred experience

- Deployments involving several services or applications.
- Linux, containers and a cloud platform.
- Automated smoke tests and deployment validation.
- Production monitoring and incident support.
- Release coordination across multiple development teams.

You will own release records, checklists, version visibility and agreed automation tasks. You may pause deployment when required checks fail and escalate through the release process.

Stream leads own component correctness and compatibility decisions. Testing owners provide validation evidence, and infrastructure owners manage the underlying platforms. Release exceptions require approval from the designated technical or business owner.

Success in the first 90 days

- Establish an accurate inventory of components, environments and deployed versions.
- Introduce consistent release manifests, checklists and release notes.
- Make important dependencies and deployment sequences visible.
- Automate selected manual build or release steps.
- Establish usable deployment validation and recovery instructions.

Other important information:

- Work permit requirements: Either Indian Citizen or having valid works in India
