HelloBae is looking for an experienced Backend Technical Consultant to review our backend, identify performance bottlenecks, and guide improvements as we build our video-first dating platform.

This is a review and advisory role, rather than a day-to-day development position.

Location: Remote

Engagement: Part-time / Freelance

Responsibilities

- Conduct regular code reviews and provide actionable feedback.
- Review backend architecture for scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
- Identify API performance issues, slow database queries, and inefficient caching.
- Review real-time chat and video-calling integrations.
- Review payment gateway and subscription integrations, including payment verification, webhooks, refunds, and duplicate-event handling.
- Assess authentication, authorization, rate limiting, and user-data security.
- Review deployment practices, monitoring, error handling, and cloud costs.
- Guide developers on improvements and verify key fixes.





Requirements

- 4+ years of backend engineering experience.
- Experience at a product-based company building consumer-facing or D2C products.
- Strong Node.js and TypeScript expertise.
- Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL, Redis, and REST APIs.
- Experience with WebSockets/Socket.IO and video/voice calling integrations such as Agora.
- Familiarity with Cloudflare and cloud infrastructure.
- Experience with payment gateways such as Razorpay
- Proven experience in code reviews, performance optimization, and architecture reviews.
- Ability to explain technical issues clearly and prioritize practical improvements.

Experience with dating, social, messaging, or other real-time consumer applications is a plus.
