Junior Associate Editor, Public Policy
If you dig past headlines to find the government order, we want you. At Way2News, you’ll turn complex policies into clear explainer videos (Telugu) that answer what families need to know. Who qualifies? Where did the money go? What changes for them? Every 90-120 second explainer you do is backed by verified sources.
What you'll do
Your job is simple! Find out what the government actually did, and help explain it in plain Telugu.
One day you might read a government order line by line to work out who qualifies for a recent scheme. The next, you compare what a budget promised with what was spent. Later that week, you are on camera explaining a ration card change in 2 minutes.
- Track the sources: follow government orders, budget documents, scheme announcements, and audit reports for Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and the Union government
- Build the fact sheet: pull the primary documents for each story and set out the numbers, dates, and eligibility rules
- Draft scripts: write short video scripts in plain Telugu, edited by an Associate Editor or Senior Editor
- Present: go on camera for simpler explainers first, with support from our video team.
- Prove it: file a source list with every script
You're probably a fit if
- Relatives and neighbours already ask you whether they qualify for a scheme
- You read the actual order or report, not only the headline about it
- You notice when a number in the news doesn't add up
- You can explain a hard idea in plain Telugu to someone who has never read a policy document
- You are curious about how government works, whichever party is in power
- You have made something: a seminar paper, study notes others borrowed, a blog, a video
What you need
- Telugu: fluent spoken and written Telugu. This is essential, wherever you studied
- A regular, full-time degree: bachelor's or master's, from a college anywhere in India.
Fresh graduates and people with up to two years of work experience are welcome
- Preferred degrees: Political Science, Public Administration, Economics, Public Policy, or Development Studies
- Also considered: Law, Rural Development, and Sociology
- English reading: enough to read policy documents
You don't need a journalism degree, newsroom experience, camera experience, or a social media following.
This role is not for you if
- You are not from Political Science, Public Administration, Economics, Public Policy, Law, Rural Development, or Sociology
- You have a political loyalty you can't set aside on camera
- You would rather give opinions than check documents
- You don't want to appear on camera
- You dislike being edited. Every script at Way2News is edited, often heavily
What success looks like
- A viewer finishes your video and knows whether the scheme applies to them
- People look forward to your next explainer
- People forward it to family because it answered a real question
- Every number holds up when someone checks it
- Your scripts need fewer edits each month
What you get
- Training from day one: a structured first month in scripting, camera delivery, and source verification
- An editor on every script: you are never publishing alone while you learn
- Tools: in-house research and scripting tools that carry part of the load
- A clear path: Junior Associate Editors move to Associate Editor on accuracy, consistency, and on-camera confidence, typically within 12 months
How to apply: Send three things to
- A short note on what you studied and why you want this desk
- A 90-120 second Telugu video explaining one scheme or one budget item: what it is, who pays for it, and who benefits (phone recording is fine; a drive link is easy)
- Your sources for the video
Shortlisted applicants do a paid one-month trial with real topics and deadlines before any offer.
Work Location: In person
