About the Role
FS University is looking for a dedicated Assistant Professor to join our Department of Physics. You will teach, run laboratory sessions, mentor students, carry out research, and help build the department’s academic reputation.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching
- Teach undergraduate (BSc Physics / BSc Hons) and, where applicable, postgraduate (MSc Physics) courses
- Handle core and elective subjects such as Classical Mechanics, Quantum Mechanics, Electromagnetism, Thermodynamics, Solid State Physics, Electronics, or Optics
- Prepare lesson plans, course material, assignments, and exams
- Use modern teaching methods, including simulations, demonstrations, and digital tools
- Evaluate students fairly and give regular feedback
Laboratory Work
- Conduct and supervise practical sessions and experiments
- Help maintain lab equipment, safety standards, and stock records
- Help plan the purchase and upgrade of lab apparatus
Research and Publications
- Carry out original research and publish in reputed, peer-reviewed or UGC-CARE / Scopus-indexed journals
- Present papers at conferences, seminars, and workshops
- Apply for research grants (DST, SERB, UGC, CSIR, etc.)
and guide student projects
Student Mentoring
- Mentor students in academics, research, and career planning
- Guide students for competitive exams (NET, GATE, JAM) and higher studies
- Supervise project work, dissertations, and science club activities
Institution Building
- Help with curriculum design and syllabus updates
- Support accreditation and ranking work (NAAC, NIRF, UGC inspections)
- Take part in admissions, exam duties, and committees
- Organise seminars, workshops, science exhibitions, and guest lectures
- Contribute to the university’s outreach and community programmes
Qualifications
Required
- Master’s degree (MSc) in Physics with at least 55% marks (or equivalent grade)
- Strong knowledge of core Physics subjects
- Good communication and presentation skills
Preferred
- PhD in Physics
- UGC-NET / SET / CSIR-NET qualification
- Prior teaching or research experience
- Published research papers
- Experience with lab instruments, simulation software, or programming (Python, MATLAB, etc.)
