About the Role
We're looking for a Senior Firmware Engineer who can independently own the reliability of embedded systems from real-time sensor arbitration on shared buses to fleet-wide OTA delivery without bricking devices. The ideal candidate will have experience leading firmware teams, making low-level architecture decisions, and shipping connected hardware to production in a fast-paced, sensor-driven environment such as wearables or IoT.
What You'll Do
- Architect and develop reliable, real-time firmware on an RTOS, optimized for determinism, power efficiency, and long-term field stability.
- Lead sensor and bus arbitration across I2C, SPI, and UART, preventing data collisions and timing failures under load.
- Own BLE firmware design, balancing continuous high-frequency streams with bursty, event-driven data without data loss.
- Design and harden OTA update pipelines, including canary rollouts, rollback, and boot-loop recovery for deployed devices.
- Manage firmware-level battery charging safety, clock tree stability, and thermal cutoff logic in collaboration with hardware teams.
- Take end-to-end ownership of firmware modules, balancing reliability, maintainability, and time-to-market.
- Establish and enforce firmware testing standards, including hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and automated testing.
- Mentor firmware engineers,
conduct code reviews, and maintain high engineering standards.
- Collaborate with hardware, ML, and application teams in an Agile environment, including sprint planning.
Required Qualifications
- B.Tech in Electronics, Computer Science, or a related field from a Tier-1 institute (IIT, NIT, BITS Pilani, or equivalent) mandatory.
- 10+ years of proven embedded firmware development experience.
- Robust hands-on experience with RTOS-based firmware and communication protocols, including I2C, SPI, UART, and BLE.
- Experience designing OTA update systems with safe rollout, rollback, and failure recovery mechanisms.
- Solid understanding of clock trees, power and battery management, and sensor arbitration under real-time constraints.
- Proficiency in C and C++ for embedded and microcontroller-based systems.
- Experience with Agile methodologies, firmware architecture, and mentoring or leading engineers.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with thermal sensors, IMUs, or camera modules on embedded platforms.
- Experience shipping firmware for consumer hardware products at fleet scale.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms and device telemetry integration.
- Experience working in a startup or fast-scaling hardware environment.
