Position Overview

This role leads a product engineering team within the company's Global Technology Department. The Engineering Manager is responsible for technical direction, delivery quality, and production reliability across a modern cloud-native stack. The role bridges deep technical engagement with people leadership — setting engineering standards, driving architectural decisions, and building a team that independently owns and delivers outcomes. Close collaboration with product, design, and Japan-based stakeholders is required to align engineering execution with business priorities across geographies.

Role & Responsibilities

- Own the team's technical direction and delivery outcomes, ensuring engineering decisions support product goals, maintainability, scalability, and reliability
- Lead architecture and system design discussions, evaluate technical trade-offs, and guide implementation decisions for complex or ambiguous problems
- Stay technically engaged through design reviews, code reviews, debugging, and hands-on contribution when necessary to resolve critical issues or unblock the team
- Take end-to-end accountability for delivery, engineering quality, production reliability,

and technical risks — establish clear priorities, address blockers, and ensure commitments are managed transparently
- Partner with product managers, designers, platform teams, and Japan-based stakeholders to clarify requirements, challenge assumptions, and align on scope, priorities, and trade-offs
- Build a team of engineers who can independently own problems and deliver solutions through effective delegation, technical guidance, mentoring, and constructive feedback
- Establish high engineering standards across testing, CI/CD, observability, security, and production operations, driving continuous improvement in quality and reliability
- Drive effective adoption of AI-assisted development tools and workflows, improving engineering productivity while maintaining accountability for code quality, security, and production outcomes
- Support hiring, performance management, and engineer development to build a strong, accountable, and high-performing engineering team

Must Have Criteria

- 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including at least 3 years leading engineering teams as an Engineering Manager or equivalent technical leadership role
- Strong technical foundation in software development, architecture, and system design, with the ability to evaluate implementation details and challenge technical decisions
- Demonstrated experience owning technical direction and making sound engineering decisions for production systems
- Proven ability to take end-to-end accountability for delivery, balancing scope, speed, engineering quality, reliability, and long-term technical health

- Robust understanding of modern engineering practices including automated testing, CI/CD, observability, production operations, and incident management
- Experience identifying technical risks, resolving complex problems, and removing blockers to enable independent and effective team delivery
- Strong collaboration and stakeholder-management skills: partnering with product and design, challenging assumptions constructively, and aligning geographically distributed teams including Japan-based stakeholders
- Proven ability to mentor engineers, delegate effectively, and develop technical ownership and decision-making capabilities within the team

Nice to Have

- Experience with cloud-native systems, microservices, and distributed systems
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools and establishing effective AI-enabled engineering practices across a team
- Experience improving developer productivity through automation, better engineering workflows, and continuous process improvement
- Experience working with globally distributed engineering teams, particularly across Japan and India
- Experience managing production incidents and driving follow-up improvements to prevent recurrence
- Japanese language proficiency and experience collaborating with Japan-based stakeholders; familiarity with Japanese business culture is an advantage

What We Offer

- Leadership role with direct influence over technical direction and team-building within the company's Global Technology Department
- Exposure to one of Asia-Pacific's largest consumer data platforms, serving 4,000+ global enterprise clients
- Hybrid work model (2–3 days in office) at Embassy TechVillage, Bangalore — one of the city's premier tech campuses
- Collaborative, ownership-driven culture with cross-regional scope across India and Japan
- Opportunity to shape engineering culture and practices during a pivotal merger and growth stage
