THE DATUM PROJECT, developed by Arcedo, is a material study platform designed to make architectural material research more informed and practical. DATUM consolidates key factors such as climate suitability, cost, durability, sustainability, construction methods, aesthetics, and maintenance to support better decision-making. It also considers availability, code compliance, and SWOT analysis, providing a comprehensive view of material performance. The platform serves architects, designers, students, and researchers by showing how and where materials perform best, rather than evaluating them in isolation. This approach helps users select materials that are contextually appropriate and technically sound for their projects. Role Description The Architectural Intern at THE DATUM PROJECT will support the development and refinement of the material study platform through research, documentation, and design-related tasks. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting architectural material research, organizing data on performance criteria, and assisting in the preparation of diagrams, drawings, and visual content that communicate material characteristics and use cases. The intern will collaborate with the team to improve workflows for integrating material data into architectural and solution design contexts, and will contribute to written and visual resources for architects,
designers, and students. This is a full-time remote role, requiring consistent communication, proactive task management, and the ability to work effectively with a distributed team. Qualifications
• Strong foundational knowledge in Architecture and Architectural Design, with the ability to interpret and produce drawings, diagrams, and design concepts.
• Understanding of Solution Architecture and Integration, particularly in how materials relate to systems, assemblies, and overall project performance.
• Effective Communication skills, including explicit written and visual communication for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Architecture, Architectural Technology, or a closely related field.
• Proficiency with common design and documentation tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, Rhino, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite) is highly beneficial.
• Strong research and analytical skills, with attention to detail in organizing and presenting material data.
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment, manage time effectively, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team.
• Interest in sustainable design, building codes, and material innovation is an advantage.
