We are seeking an experienced Mathematics expert to lead a pod of 5–10 technical trainers developing realistic, terminal-based scientific and technical tasks for Terminal Bench Science, an AI training and evaluation initiative.

The ideal candidate will have advanced expertise in mathematics, scientific computing, numerical methods, and computational workflows, along with strong programming skills and experience mentoring technical or research teams.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead, mentor, and onboard a team of 5–10 technical trainers.
- Review mathematical tasks, datasets, environments, reference solutions, and automated tests.
- Validate mathematical correctness, numerical stability, convergence, conditioning, and computational accuracy.
- Review optimization, statistics, mathematical modeling, symbolic computation, and scientific computing tasks.
- Ensure tasks require meaningful multi-step reasoning and are reproducible.
- Validate automated graders, testing procedures, and numerical tolerances.
- Identify hard-coded solutions, test-data leakage, and other evaluation weaknesses.
- Provide actionable feedback, track revisions, and maintain technical documentation.
- Monitor quality, productivity, and delivery timelines.

Required Qualifications

- PhD, postdoctoral experience, or equivalent advanced experience in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
- Strong programming skills in Python, Julia, C/C++, MATLAB/Octave, or computer algebra systems.




- Solid Linux and terminal proficiency.
- Hands-on experience in numerical methods, scientific computing, optimization, computational statistics, or mathematical modeling.
- Experience reviewing research outputs, scientific code, mathematical work, or computational workflows.
- Experience leading or mentoring technical or research teams.
- Excellent written communication and analytical skills.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience with NumPy, SciPy, SymPy, mpmath, SageMath, or Mathematica.
- Familiarity with ODE/PDE solvers, optimization frameworks, or formal proof assistants.
- Experience with Docker, Git, CI systems, and automated testing.
- Experience developing computational benchmarks or evaluating AI coding and reasoning systems.

Contract Details

- Duration: 4 weeks.
- Minimum commitment: 40 hours per week.
- Daily commitment: At least 8 hours.
- Required overlap: 4 hours with PST.
- Contractor assignment; medical and paid leave are not provided.
