Part of the Aditya Birla Capital Limited, Aditya Birla Housing Finance Limited (ABHFL) is registered with the National Housing Bank as a housing finance company under the National Housing Bank Act, 1987. The company offers a complete range of housing finance solutions such as home loans, home improvement and home construction loans, balance transfer and top-up loans, loans against property and construction finance. The company acquired its license on 9th July 2014 and has aggressive growth plans.

ABHFL has grown at a steady rate while reporting good asset quality despite challenges in the operating environment. While the industry is dominated by five large groups, there has been an emergence of segments like Affordable and self-employed borrowers, given the high potential in these segments. Despite increased focus by banks, HFCs have been able to maintain their share in the mortgage market. and is poised for rapid growth and plans to grow 5X (40,000 Cr) in the next 5 years.

This shall take ABHFL within the top 5 percentile of HFCs in the country.

The ABHFL Sales organization works broadly with 3 customer segments retail (individual) customers, institutional customers (for retail and institutional loan consumers) and builders (for both retail tie-ups and construction finance), with a major share of the business coming from retail customers. Client segments can also be divided into Salaried and Self-employed, with both having very different preferences and needs.

Job Context The Legal department would validate the regulatory & compliance requirements for the new business initiatives and product launches, conclude the litigations raised by or against the company, establish a sound corporate governance framework, execute legal agreements and provide transactional support in the investment processes.





The Counsel-Litigation is responsible for providing assistance for all legal requirements of the organization pertaining to the litigation aspect. He/ she would provide complete assistance to the Team Leader Litigation. This would include coordination with counsels for litigation, assisting in legal / statutory audits and maintaining detailed MIS and coverage reports of the proceedings.

Key Challenges The major challenges in this role are keeping abreast of the latest legal/statutory amendments, knowledge about various legal documents & liaising with multiple regulators

Enabling Skill Sets & Qualifications The critical skill sets required to meet these challenges are a robust negotiation and arbitration skills, knowledge of agreement formulation & statutory regulations, detail & process orientation & strong network.

The education & experience required to fulfil this profile are an LLB/ Masters in Law with minimum 4 6 years of experience in the legal function (HFC) of a bank or an NBFC with positive drafting skills, good knowledge of the law and a good command over the English language.

KRA1 To assist in legal department in liaising for filing of cases - HFC To maintain records / files of cases filed by & against the company To prepare periodic MIS/CGR of outstanding litigations & coordinate for their follow-up & closure.

To update the legal team and relevant stake holders the status and strategies used for cases filed/defended and take appropriate approvals.

KRA2 To coordinate with external counsels & law firms & assist in formulating the pleadings of the lawsuits To coordinate with advocates on record for updating legal status of cases filed by & against the company To assist in formulating the claims & counter claims, arguments & evidences for the cases To keep a track of payment made to the advocates / law firms / counsels on record

Updating status of cases filed against directors and against the company

Draft/respond to notices sent by customers/counter parties/statutory authorities.
