Strategic Procurement Manager - Commodities and Electronics

An auto-components supplier to two of the large domestic OEMs, consolidating buying for steel, aluminium and electronics across its plants

The cost pressure on this business

This supplier makes chassis, suspension and electrical parts for two domestic vehicle makers from four plants. Its OEM contracts carry annual price-down clauses, while steel, aluminium and copper prices move every quarter and electronic components can go on allocation without warning. Purchasing has so far been done plant by plant. The company has partnered with Flexiple to hire a Strategic Procurement Manager who will set category strategy across plants and protect margin over the life of each programme.

Responsibilities across the categories

- Build category strategies for flat steel, aluminium castings, copper wire, rubber and electronic components
- Negotiate index-linked pricing with steel and aluminium suppliers, and align pass-through terms with the OEM contracts
- Develop should-cost models with engineering for major bought-out parts and use them in negotiation
- Drive localisation of imported electronics and tooling where the cost and risk case supports it
- Run supplier risk reviews covering capacity, financial health and single-source exposure
- Lead the commercial side of current programme sourcing,



from RFQ to PPAP sign-off with quality
- Report savings, price variance and risk to the plant heads and finance every month

Required background

- 10 to 14 years in automotive or engineering procurement, with at least four years in a strategic or category role
- Hands-on experience with commodity indexation and OEM price negotiations
- Good understanding of manufacturing processes such as stamping, casting and machining
- Strong cost modelling skills in Excel and familiarity with SAP or a similar ERP
- Experience leading a team of buyers across more than one plant

- An engineering degree, with an MBA or supply chain qualification
