We report on the founders, investors, financial institutions, and technologies that influence how money moves and how companies are built. We focus on the people and companies behind the numbers, writing for professionals, investors, founders, operators, and anyone who wants to understand where business and finance are going. THE ROLE You'll build and run the platform our journalism lives on. Media engineering is unglamorous in a way that matters. A story is worth nothing if the page takes six seconds to load, search can't find it, or analytics can't tell us whether anyone read it. You'll own the systems that decide whether our work reaches people:
• Publish: the backend services, APIs, and content models behind the platform
• Deliver: page speed, caching, and reliability
• Research: the data that tracks companies, founders, funding rounds, investors, acquisitions, and markets over time
• Measure: analytics that show what's read, how readers find us, and what performs Most of the work is backend. There's also a significant data side. Covering business well means tracking thousands of companies and deals as they change over time, and that is as much a data problem as an editorial one. Your users are editors. They'll tell you plainly when a tool slows them down. WHAT YOU'LL WORK ON Publishing platform
• Build and maintain the backend services and APIs behind Finance Times
• Build the internal tools editors use to research, write, publish, and manage coverage Performance and delivery
• Own site performance end to end, including page speed, caching, CDN, and content delivery
• Improve reliability, scalability, and security across the platform Business and financial data




• Design the data models behind our coverage of companies, founders, investors, funding rounds, acquisitions, industries, and markets
• Build pipelines that pull in external data sources and keep that record accurate and current Analytics
• Build tracking and reporting that show what readers engage with and how they discover our work Engineering quality
• Own quality through tests, code review, monitoring, and debugging production issues
• Contribute to architecture decisions and document them clearly EXAMPLE PROBLEMS YOU MIGHT TACKLE

• An editor wants every funding round above $50M in Indian fintech this year, with links to our coverage. Make that a 10-second query, not a 2-day spreadsheet.
• Search traffic drops 20% after a release. Work out what broke and make sure it can't silently happen again. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
• 2–5 years of professional software engineering, with production systems you have shipped and maintained
• Strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, databases, and software design
• Proficiency in Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Java, Go, or a comparable modern language
• Solid backend experience with REST APIs, databases, and server-side frameworks
• Experience designing relational and structured data models
• Fluency with Git and collaborative workflows (pull requests, code review, CI)
• Robust debugging instincts and code that someone else can read and maintain
• Clear communication with non-engineers,



since your users are editors and researchers
• Self-direction on a distributed team: you unblock yourself, write things down, and raise risks early
• A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience NICE TO HAVE
• Experience with a CMS, publishing platform, news product, or media company
• Web performance work: caching, CDN configuration, Core Web Vitals, technical SEO
• Search and retrieval: full-text search, indexing, ranking, or recommendations
• Analytics instrumentation, event tracking, and reporting pipelines
• Data pipelines and large, continuously updated datasets
• Cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure, plus Docker and CI/CD
• Integrating third-party APIs and external data sources
• LLM applications for search, summarization, classification, data extraction, or editorial tooling
