Job Description
Radial Drill Operator (Machine Shop) Job Summary The Radial Drill Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining radial drilling machines to perform drilling, reaming, tapping, countersinking, and boring operations on fabricated and machined components as per engineering drawings and specifications. The role ensures dimensional accuracy, productivity, and compliance with quality and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

- Set up and operate radial drilling machines for various machining operations.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, job orders, and process sheets.
- Select appropriate cutting tools, drill bits, reamers, and tapping tools.
- Align and clamp workpieces securely before machining.
- Perform drilling, tapping, reaming, countersinking, and boring operations as per drawing requirements.
- Check dimensions using measuring instruments such as Vernier calipers, depth gauges, steel scales, and micrometers.
- Ensure hole locations, depths, and tolerances meet quality specifications.
- Perform routine machine maintenance and lubrication.
- Report machine breakdowns, tool wear, and quality issues to the supervisor.
- Maintain production records and daily work reports.
- Follow 5S, housekeeping, and workplace safety requirements.




- Ensure proper handling of heavy components using lifting equipment where applicable. Required Skills
- Knowledge of radial drilling machine operations.
- Ability to read engineering drawings.
- Knowledge of cutting tools and machining parameters.
- Proficiency in using measuring instruments.
- Understanding of machine shop safety practices.
- Basic troubleshooting and machine maintenance skills. Educational Qualification
- ITI Machinist / Turner / Fitter or equivalent technical qualification.
- Relevant machine shop experience preferred. Experience
- 2-5 years experience in operating radial drilling machines in a manufacturing or heavy engineering environment.
- Experience with heavy fabrication and machined components preferred. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Production target achievement.
- Rejection and rework percentage.
- Machine utilization.
- Adherence to safety requirements.
- Housekeeping and 5S compliance.
