In this role, you will be responsible for defining RPO/RTO strategies, deploying Azure Site Recovery (ASR) and Azure Backup, automating recovery workflows, executing DR drills, and authoring end-to-end technical documentation.
Key ResponsibilitiesAssessment & Design
-
Assess Environments: Evaluate existing infrastructure, applications, system dependencies, backup configurations, and overall DR readiness across cloud and on-premises systems.
-
Requirements Gathering: Define and document BCDR requirements—including Recovery Point Objective (RPO), Recovery Time Objective (RTO), retention policies, workload criticality, and recovery priorities.
-
Architectural Design: Design scalable DR architectures using Azure Site Recovery (ASR) and engineer backup solutions using Azure Backup and Recovery Services Vaults.
Implementation & Configuration
-
Policy & Protection Setup: Configure replication settings, backup schedules, protection policies, retention rules, and recovery configurations.
-
Runbook & Dependency Mapping: Develop workload and application-specific DR runbooks; define strict recovery sequencing for interconnected systems, infrastructure, and database dependencies.

Security & Access Control: Implement proper security posture, encryption, RBAC, and access controls for all backup and recovery infrastructure.
Drills, Operations & Remediation
-
Testing & Failover Exercises: Plan and execute DR drills, test failovers, planned/unplanned failovers,
and failback activities without disrupting production.
-
Backup Validation: Perform routine backup restoration and recovery testing to guarantee data integrity and recoverability.
-
Monitoring & Troubleshooting: Continuously monitor replication and backup health; rapidly troubleshoot and resolve failed backup, replication, recovery, and restore jobs.
-
Gap Analysis: Identify architectural and operational gaps within the existing setting and propose actionable remediation strategies.
Automation & Technical Documentation
-
Operational Automation: Automate repetitive DR and backup tasks using PowerShell, Azure CLI, Azure Automation, or Infrastructure as Code (IaC) templates.
-
Technical Documentation: Author High-Level Designs (HLD), Low-Level Designs (LLD), DR/Backup Plans, SOPs, Runbooks, DR Drill Reports, and handover documentation.
-
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate with application owners, database administrators, network/security engineering, cloud operators, and business stakeholders during planning and DR exercises.
Required Qualifications & Experience
-
Experience: 8+ years of relevant experience in IT infrastructure, cloud engineering, and BCDR architecture.
-
Cloud Platform Expertise: Deep hands-on proficiency with Azure Site Recovery (ASR), Azure Backup, Recovery Services Vaults, and Azure Infrastructure (VMs, Networking, Storage).
-
Scripting & Automation: Proficiency in PowerShell, Azure CLI, Azure Automation, or IaC (Terraform / ARM / Bicep).
-
Communication & Presentation: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present technical strategies and report DR drill outcomes to cross-functional stakeholders.
