About the role

We are looking for an experienced individual freelance Machine Vision Consultant to design and recommend complete imaging setups for industrial inspection projects. Each project involves a different industry, product and production environment, so the right combination of camera, lens, lighting and enclosure changes every time. You will work closely with our team during proof-of-concept (POC) and project stages to make sure every setup captures images good enough for reliable AI-based defect detection.

Key responsibilities

- Requirement analysis: understand each use case from product samples, line videos and site details, including part size, smallest defect to be detected, line speed and setting.
- Camera selection: recommend the right industrial camera, covering resolution, sensor size, area scan vs line scan, monochrome vs colour, frame rate and interface.
- Lens selection: calculate field of view, working distance and pixel resolution, and recommend suitable lenses.
- Lighting design: recommend the right lighting technique and placement (backlight, dome, bar, ring, coaxial, low-angle, etc.) for each surface and defect type.
- Enclosures and mounting: suggest enclosures, mounting structures and protection suited to the line environment, including dust, moisture,



vibration and food-grade needs where applicable.
- Bill of materials: share a complete hardware list with specifications, indicative vendors and pricing for each setup.
- POC support: review sample images captured on site and suggest adjustments to improve image quality.
- Documentation: provide a short write-up for each recommendation explaining the calculations and reasoning.

Requirements

- Experience: 3+ years of hands-on experience designing machine vision setups for industrial inspection.
- Technical knowledge: strong understanding of optics, lighting techniques, camera sensors and image acquisition.
- Industry exposure: experience across sectors such as automotive, FMCG, food, pharma or packaging is preferred.
- Brand familiarity: working knowledge of industrial camera and lighting brands (Basler, Hikrobot, Daheng, Cognex, Keyence, etc.).
- Certifications (preferred): A3 Certified Vision Professional (CVP) or vendor training from Cognex, Keyence, Basler or MVTec is a plus.
- Engagement: individual freelancers only, no agencies.
- Availability: you can work on your own schedule, but must be available for calls between 10 AM and 7 PM IST, Monday to Friday. Strict project timelines must be followed.
