About Telence Solutions

Telence Solutions is a multi-vendor network engineering, cybersecurity and AI operations partner for service providers and mission-critical industries – power utilities, oil and gas, transportation, government broadband and data centers. From RFP to design, migration and managed operations, we deliver vendor-level depth across IP/MPLS, optical, mobility, broadband, data center and security, at a cost well below direct vendor services. Our 70+ certified engineers include 21 Nokia Service Router Architects, and our in-house Autonomic Network Engine (ANE) brings AI-driven, human-approved operations across network domains.

The role

We're looking for a senior optical architect who has designed, built and run carrier-grade DWDM/OTN networks on Nokia and Ciena – not in a lab, but on live traffic inside maintenance windows. You'll lead customer engagements end to end: shaping RFP responses and platform choices, producing designs, guiding migrations, and advising operators on how to modernize their transport networks. You'll also help shape optical support in ANE, our AI operations platform.

What you'll do

- Architect and design metro, regional, long-haul and (where relevant) subsea DWDM/OTN networks on Nokia 1830 PSS and Ciena 6500 / Waveserver / RLS
- Produce HLDs, LLDs, engineering design specifications, link budgets, OSNR/Q-factor analysis and BOMs
- Lead migrations and modernization: ILA-to-ROADM conversions, node insertions, degree adds, fixed-to-flex-grid, coherent upgrades (100G to 800G+), and SONET/SDH retirement
- Plan and run cutovers: MOPs, risk and service-impact assessment, Go/No-Go, and maintenance-window execution with customer operations teams
- Support pre-sales:

RFP and RFI responses, vendor and platform evaluations, TCO input and customer workshops
- Act as a Tier-3 escalation point for complex multi-vendor optical faults
- Mentor engineers, write standards and runbooks, and contribute to automation of provisioning and software upgrades
- Work with our ANE team to bring optical fault detection, root cause and closed-loop operations into the platform

What you bring

- 10+ years in optical transport engineering, with at least 5 years in a senior design or architect role
- Deep hands-on experience with Nokia 1830 PSS and Ciena 6500 (designing, provisioning and troubleshooting); Ciena Waveserver, RLS or Blue Planet a strong plus
- Solid command of DWDM, OTN (G.709), coherent optics, CDC-F ROADMs, flex-grid, optical protection (OLP, ODUk SNCP, ASON/WSON) and SONET/SDH
- Track record on live carrier, utility or data center interconnect networks, including large migrations
- Design and planning tools such as Nokia NFM-T/WaveSuite, Ciena OneControl/MCP/OnePlanner and Site Manager, plus TL1/CLI
- Experience leading RFPs or vendor evaluations from the operator or integrator side
- Clear written and verbal communication with customers, vendors and field teams

Nice to have

- Fujitsu 1FINITY, Infinera or Huawei OSN experience
- IP/MPLS-over-optical integration (Nokia SR, Cisco, Juniper), packet-optical and DCI
- vendor optical certifications (Nokia, Ciena)

Why Telence

- Work on high-impact optical programs for service providers and mission-critical networks across North America and beyond
- Join a senior, certified team with vendor-level expertise across Nokia, Ciena, Cisco, Juniper, Arista and more
- Flexible, remote-first engagement
