Roles of a Chemist in Water and Wastewater Treatment
Lab Analysis: Conduct chemical, physical, and biological analysis of water and wastewater samples.
Process Control: Monitor treatment processes to ensure water quality meets safety and regulatory standards.
Chemical Dosing and Selection: Select appropriate chemicals (coagulants, disinfectants, etc.) and optimize dosing rates.
Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC): Maintain the accuracy and precision of analytical results through calibration, standards, and method validation.
Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve process upsets or water quality problems by interpreting analytical results.
Reporting & Documentation: Prepare reports on water quality, compliance, and laboratory findings for internal and regulatory use.
Safety & Compliance:
Ensure all laboratory activities comply with safety standards and environmental regulations.
Method Development: Develop and validate recent analytical methods as needed for advanced or emerging contaminants.
Research & Development: Investigate creative treatment technologies or chemical solutions to improve plant efficiency.
Training & Supervision: Train and oversee laboratory technicians or junior staff on laboratory protocols and safety practices.
