A dermatologist is a specialized medical doctor who diagnoses, treats, and manages diseases and conditions affecting the skin, hair, nails, and mucous membranes

Responsibilities

- Diagnostics & Consultation: Conduct complete skin and physical examinations, review medical histories, and perform diagnostic procedures like skin biopsies to evaluate rashes, pigmented lesions, and skin cancers.
- Medical Treatment: Prescribe topical, oral, or injected medications (such as antibiotics, retinoids, or biologics) for conditions like acne, eczema, psoriasis, alopecia, and skin infections.
- Dermatologic Surgery: Perform minor or specialized surgeries, including cryosurgery, electrosurgery, excisions, and Mohs micrographic surgery for skin cancer removal.
- Cosmetic Procedures: Provide aesthetic treatments such as chemical peels, laser resurfacing, microdermabrasion, and toxin or filler injections.
- Patient Education & Prevention: Counsel patients on sun protection, annual dermatologic screenings, and proper skin and lymph node self-examinations.




- Collaboration & Referral: Coordinate care with primary care physicians, oncologists, or plastic surgeons, and refer patients to other specialists when necessary.

Qualifications & Requirements

- Education & Training: Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent), followed by a mandatory internship and a 3-year post-graduate specialization (MD, DNB, or diploma in Dermatology), as detailed on Diginerve.
- Licensure & Certification: Valid state or national medical council license to practice dermatology, with optional board certification (e.g., FAAD in the US or equivalent fellowship credentials).
- Skills: Strong clinical diagnostic abilities, attention to detail, empathy, effective patient communication, and proficiency with specialized medical and laser tools.
