Job Title: Manufacturing Logistics Design Engineer (Kanban Specialization) (Contract/Consultant/Freelancer)
The Manufacturing Logistics Design Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and improving material flow, storage systems, and line-side feeding methods within the production facility. This role drives lean initiatives—specifically Kanban to optimize inventory levels, ensure JIT (Just-in-Time) delivery, and reduce material-related downtime.
Key Responsibilities
● Kanban System Design & Implementation: Develop and maintain pull-based replenishment strategies (Kanban, min/max, supermarkets, milk runs) tailored to production demand, cycle times, and consumption patterns.
● Material Flow Optimization: Design warehouse capacity, layout, and material flow processes (inbound logistics, staging, and line-side feeding).
● PFEP (Plan for Every Part): Manage the data for every part, including dimensions, weight, pack size, storage/slotting, and line-feed method.
● Value Stream Mapping (VSM): Conduct current vs. future state value stream mapping to identify waste, cut travel time, and optimize logistics processes.
● Process Engineering & Layouts: Prepare 2D/3D layouts (AutoCAD/Visio) for assembly lines,
logistics areas, and equipment placement.
● Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with Production, Planning, Purchasing, and Manufacturing Engineering to align logistics with production goals, ensuring material availability.
● Inventory & Data Control: Optimize inventory buffers using data-driven calculations. Utilize ERP/WMS/MES systems (SAP, Oracle) for tracking inventory accuracy and setting replenishment triggers.
● Continuous Improvement (CI): Run Kaizen events to improve Kanban efficiency, reduce touches, and boost line-side ergonomics.
Required Skills and Qualifications
● Education: Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain, Logistics, or a related engineering field.
● Experience: 1-2+ years in manufacturing engineering, in-plant logistics, or supply chain.
● Kanban & Lean Knowledge: Strong hands-on experience with Kanban systems, material pull systems, supermarket design, and Just-in-Time (JIT) methods.
