About the Role
We are seeking a hands-on senior engineer to design, build, secure, release, upgrade, troubleshoot, and support the Linux platform used by the EMS enterprise appliance. EMS is deployed on physical or virtual systems in customer environments. The position requires deep Linux systems engineering combined with appliance lifecycle, containers, networking, security, virtualization, automation, and offline or air-gapped deployment experience.
Key Responsibilities
• Design and maintain the Linux platform for physical and virtual EMS appliances.
• Build repeatable, version-controlled, and potentially immutable Linux images.
• Own the appliance lifecycle from build and provisioning through deployment, validation, upgrade, rollback, recovery, diagnostics, and reimaging.
• Engineer installation and update solutions for on-premises, low-connectivity, offline, and air-gapped environments.
• Design safe OS and application update, rollback, health-validation, and recovery mechanisms.
• Engineer and troubleshoot Linux boot, systemd, networking, storage, filesystems, firewalling, logging, packages, permissions, and services.
• Deploy and manage containerized applications using Podman, Docker, Kubernetes/MicroK8s, or equivalent technologies.
• Use Podman, Quadlet, and systemd-managed containers where appropriate.
• Support physical hardware and virtual appliances across KVM, VMware, Hyper-V, or equivalent platforms.
• Implement Linux hardening, certificate management, vulnerability remediation, package integrity, and platform security controls.
• Automate appliance image creation, testing, packaging, validation, and release.
• Build field diagnostics and recovery capabilities and collaborate with software engineering, QA, cybersecurity, product, infrastructure, and support teams. Required
Experience:
• 7+ years in Linux platform engineering, Linux systems engineering, enterprise appliance engineering, embedded or edge Linux, infrastructure engineering, or a similar role.
• Deep hands-on Linux experience, preferably Ubuntu, RHEL, Fedora, or another enterprise Linux distribution.
• Strong knowledge of systemd, Linux boot and OS lifecycle, networking, firewalling, storage, filesystems, package management, logging, diagnostics, security, permissions, and Bash or Python scripting.
• Experience building image-based, immutable, embedded, edge, or appliance-style Linux platforms.
• Experience creating automated OS images using Packer, custom ISO or image pipelines, or equivalent technologies.
• Experience designing upgrade, rollback, recovery, and reimaging solutions.
• Experience supporting on-premises, field-deployed, low-connectivity, offline, or air-gapped systems.
• Robust container experience with Podman, Docker, containerd, or equivalent OCI technologies.
• Experience with self-managed or on-premises Kubernetes environments. Page 1 Senior Linux Platform / Appliance Engineer

Job Description
• Strong troubleshooting skills across Linux, networking, storage, containers, virtualization, and application services.
• Ability to independently design and deliver production-ready, secure, and supportable solutions. Ideal Candidate: Profile The ideal candidate is a Linux engineer who builds platforms and products, not simply someone who administers Linux servers. The strongest candidates will have experience with Linux-based appliances, industrial or edge systems, networking or security appliances, embedded platforms, or other long-lived on-premises products where reliability, security, controlled updates, offline operation, and field serviceability are critical.
