About the Role
We are looking for a skilled and experienced Database Administrator (DBA) with strong hands-on expertise in PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server to manage, maintain, optimize, and secure our production database environments. The candidate will be responsible for ensuring database performance, availability, reliability, scalability, and security across multiple applications and business-critical systems. This is a hands-on technical role requiring someone who can independently troubleshoot database issues, perform regular performance tuning, optimize queries, manage backups, resolve operational failures, and ensure databases remain stable and efficient. The ideal candidate should have strong troubleshooting capabilities and be comfortable managing both routine database administration and critical production-level issues.

Key Responsibilities
1. Database Administration & Management
• Manage, configure, maintain, and administer PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server databases.
• Monitor database health, availability, resource utilization, and overall system performance.
• Perform regular database maintenance, upgrades, patching, and configuration management.
• Manage database schemas, tables, indexes, constraints, stored procedures, functions, and views.
• Handle database migrations, schema modifications, and deployment-related database changes.
• Ensure database environments remain secure, reliable, and accessible to authorized applications and users. 2. Database Performance Tuning & Optimization
• Conduct regular database performance analysis and optimization.
• Identify and resolve slow-running queries, inefficient execution plans, locking issues, and database bottlenecks.
• Perform query optimization, indexing strategies, partitioning, and execution-plan analysis.
• Monitor CPU, memory, disk I/O, connection utilization, and database resource consumption.
• Optimize database configurations and parameters to improve performance.
• Maintain and optimize materialized views, caching mechanisms, and indexing structures where applicable.
• Proactively identify performance degradation and implement corrective measures. 3. Production Support & Troubleshooting
• Act as the first point of contact for database-related technical issues across applications and development teams.
• Diagnose and resolve database failures, connection issues, deadlocks, transaction failures, and performance bottlenecks.
• Troubleshoot PostgreSQL and MS SQL Server errors, service interruptions, and unexpected database behaviour.
• Investigate root causes of recurring database issues and implement permanent corrective measures.
• Provide database-level technical support to development, backend, and infrastructure teams.
• Handle critical production issues and coordinate resolution with relevant technical teams. 4.

Backup, Recovery & Disaster Management
• Design, execute, and maintain scheduled database backup procedures.
• Implement and manage full, differential, incremental, and transaction-log backup strategies as applicable.
• Regularly validate backup integrity and perform restoration testing.
• Manage database replication and recovery mechanisms.
• Establish and maintain disaster recovery procedures and recovery plans.
• Participate in periodic disaster recovery drills and ensure data recoverability.
• Monitor backup failures and resolve issues proactively. 5. Database Security & Access Management
• Implement role-based access control (RBAC), user permissions, and database authentication policies.
• Ensure appropriate access restrictions and least-privilege database access.
• Monitor database audit logs, access activities, and suspicious database operations.
• Implement encryption mechanisms and secure database configurations.
• Identify and resolve database security misconfigurations and vulnerabilities.
• Support database security audits and compliance requirements. 6. High Availability & Scalability
• Configure and maintain database replication, read replicas, and high-availability mechanisms.
• Monitor database storage capacity and resource utilization.
• Support connection pooling, load distribution, and database scaling.
• Identify potential capacity constraints before they impact production systems.
• Ensure database environments can support increasing application workloads and data volumes.
• Support infrastructure and database scaling activities in coordination with the technical team. 7. On-Premise Infrastructure & Database Operations
• Administer database-hosting environments across Linux and Windows servers.
• Perform routine server maintenance, resource checks, monitoring, and patch management.
• Monitor disk utilization, storage growth, memory, CPU, and I/O performance.
• Coordinate database infrastructure requirements with system and infrastructure administrators.
• Maintain operational stability of production database servers. 8. Monitoring, Documentation & Development Support
• Configure and maintain database monitoring dashboards using Prometheus, Grafana, or equivalent tools.
• Monitor database alerts, logs, connections, replication status, and resource utilization.
• Maintain database documentation, configuration records, SOPs, and operational runbooks.
• Execute approved database schema changes, migrations, and configuration updates through established change-management procedures.
• Coordinate with developers to review database queries, schema designs, and database-related implementation issues. Required Skills & Qualifications
