Oncology Data Specialist – Certified (ODS-C) / Cancer Registrar About Triomics: Triomics helps oncology organizations scale clinical research and high-quality data creation without scaling headcount. Our AI platform – powered by OncoLLM™ – automates the operational work behind trial screening, eligibility interpretation, and oncology data abstraction across Prism (trial matching), Harmony (registry + RWE curation), and Symphony (clinician copilot). Built for real-world hospital workflows, Triomics integrates with EHRs and CTMS systems and is deployed with leading academic cancer centers to improve speed, consistency, and audit-ready clinical accuracy.
Job Description
Part of the Oncology Clinical Team, this role brings certified cancer-registry expertise (NCRA ODS-C) to training, validating, and continuously improving AI-driven oncology registry abstraction and data curation. This role collaborates closely with NLP, product, and operations teams to encode registry standards into model logic, build oncology data dictionaries, optimize abstraction rules, and ensure registry-grade, audit-ready clinical accuracy across oncology workflows — with particular emphasis on Harmony (registry + RWE curation). Position Summary: This role works at the intersection of cancer-registry science and artificial intelligence. The Oncology Data Specialist is responsible for evaluating and refining AI-generated registry abstractions from electronic health records and clinical databases to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with national registry standards. Responsibilities include validating model-driven case finding, histology and staging determinations, and standardized data-item coding; tuning oncology data dictionaries; improving abstraction logic; and benchmarking AI performance against gold-standard registrar abstraction across solid and hematologic malignancies.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform and validate registry-grade abstraction of oncology cases — case finding, class of case, primary site and histology (ICD-O-3), AJCC TNM staging, Site-Specific Data Items (SSDIs), Extent of Disease (EOD), first-course treatment, and follow-up — refining AI-assisted abstractions against CoC STORE, SEER, and NAACCR standards.
• Provide structured feedback to improve AI model performance on case finding, reportability, staging, and standardized data-item coding.
• Translate registry manuals and coding rules (CoC STORE, SEER Program Coding and Staging Manual, ICD-O-3, AJCC, NAACCR)
into structured, model-readable logic to enhance automated abstraction and screening.
• Review and refine AI-extracted diagnostic, pathology, imaging, staging, and treatment data for accuracy and standard compliance.
• Collaborate with NLP and product teams to tune oncology-specific data dictionaries and abstraction frameworks.
• Define and improve abstraction rules to enhance automated clinical data structuring and registry readiness.
• Serve as the cancer-registry subject-matter expert to guide model optimization across solid and hematologic malignancies.
• Conduct second-level and quality-control reviews to benchmark AI performance against gold-standard registrar abstraction and monitor inter-abstractor concordance.
• Identify systematic error patterns in AI outputs and propose workflow
- or model-level improvements.
• Support registry reporting readiness (Commission on Cancer, state central registries, SEER) and contribute to SOP development for AI-assisted abstraction workflows. Qualification:
• Current NCRA Oncology Data Specialist – Certified (ODS-C) credential (formerly CTR) in good standing — required.
• 2+ years of cancer-registry abstraction experience (hospital-based and/or central registry).
• Strong command of registry standards: CoC STORE, SEER Program Coding and Staging Manual, NAACCR data standards, ICD-O-3 (histology and topography), AJCC TNM staging, SSDIs/Site-Specific Data Items, and Extent of Disease (EOD).
• Experience abstracting across both solid and hematologic malignancies.
• Comfort working with AI-assisted workflows and structured data systems.
• Additional certification in Clinical Research or Clinical Data Management preferred.
Education:
Associate degree in Cancer Registry Management, completion of an NCRA-recognized Formal Education Program, or an equivalent qualifying pathway for ODS-C eligibility. Related degrees in Health Information Management, Nursing (B.
Sc), Pharmacy (BPharm/MPharm), Dentistry (BDS/MDS), or the life sciences are acceptable when paired with the ODS-C credential. Skills and Abilities:
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
• Sound judgment in abstracting and coding medical data, with the ability to work independently and to escalate or seek input when appropriate.
• High attention to detail and strong adherence to registry coding rules, timeliness, and completeness standards.
• High adaptability to changing assignments, project requirements, training schedules, and occasionally suboptimal tools or databases.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint); able to create, maintain, and share professional documents and reports. Why Join us? 1. • Hematologic cancers (leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma) — Hematopoietic database rules, types, staging, diagnosis, and treatment.
• Treatment data coding — surgery, radiation, and systemic therapy.
• Case finding, reportability, and class-of-case determination.
