Ltd. is seeking a highly experienced Senior Mechanical Design Expert – Power Transformers to lead mechanical design and engineering activities for large oil-immersed power transformers. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience in transformer tank design, core-and-coil clamping structures, internal and external mechanical assemblies, structural calculations, welding, fabrication, and mechanical design validation. The role requires strong technical expertise to independently develop, review, optimize, and approve mechanical designs while collaborating with our US-based engineering and manufacturing teams to ensure compliance with customer specifications and IEEE/ANSI standards.

Key Responsibilities
1. Transformer Tank & Cover Design
• Design and review transformer tanks, covers, bases, stiffeners, reinforcement structures, and associated mechanical components.
• Perform structural calculations for tank wall thickness, cover deflection, stiffener sizing, and mechanical strength.
• Evaluate vacuum, internal pressure, oil head, lifting, jacking, and transportation loads.
• Develop welding configurations, flanges, sealing arrangements, and fabrication details.
• Optimize tank weight, structural integrity, material consumption, and manufacturing cost. 2. Core-and-Coil Clamping Design
• Design core clamping frames, yoke beams, tie rods, pressure rings, and support structures.
• Evaluate axial and radial winding forces under short-circuit conditions.
• Ensure mechanical stability of core-and-coil assemblies during manufacturing, transportation, and operation.
• Review clamping calculations, structural integrity, and thermal expansion requirements. 3. Internal & External Mechanical Assemblies




• Design internal lead supports, brackets, insulation supports, and tap-changer mounting arrangements.
• Develop mechanical arrangements for bushings, radiators, conservators, cooling systems, piping, valves, and accessories.
• Ensure mechanical clearances, structural stability, maintainability, and integration with electrical design requirements.
• Review general arrangement and assembly drawings against customer specifications. 4. Structural Analysis & Mechanical Calculations
• Perform structural strength, stress, deformation, vibration, and fatigue analysis.
• Conduct FEA simulations using ANSYS Mechanical, Abaqus, or equivalent software.
• Analyze welded joints, bolted connections, structural members, and energetic loads.
• Validate mechanical calculations through design reviews, testing, and manufacturing feedback. 5. Mechanical Design & Manufacturing Support
• Develop detailed fabrication and assembly drawings with appropriate tolerances, weld symbols, and material specifications.
• Apply Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) principles.
• Coordinate with US-based manufacturing teams to resolve fabrication, welding, assembly, and structural issues.
• Support root-cause analysis of mechanical failures, oil leaks, structural deformation, and vibration problems.
• Drive cost optimization and continuous improvement in mechanical engineering. 6. Engineering Documentation & Technical Leadership
• Review and approve mechanical drawings, engineering calculations, and bills of materials (BOM).
• Ensure compliance with applicable IEEE/ANSI, AWS, and ASTM standards.
• Maintain engineering documentation,



revision control, and design standardization.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to mechanical engineers and CAD designers.
• Collaborate with electrical engineering, quality, testing, procurement, and project management teams. Required Qualifications & Experience
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering; Master's degree preferred.
• Minimum 12–15 years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in oil-immersed power transformers.
• 8–10 years of direct experience in transformer tank design, core clamping structures, and mechanical assemblies.
• Experience designing transformers rated 100 MVA and above.
• Experience with 115 kV, 138 kV, or 230 kV class transformers is strongly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of structural calculations, welding, fabrication, mechanical strength, and design validation.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, Creo, AutoCAD, or equivalent CAD software.
• Working knowledge of ANSYS Mechanical, Abaqus, or equivalent FEA tools.
• Familiarity with engineering BOM, PDM, and ERP systems.
• Experience supporting transformer fabrication, assembly, and factory testing.
• Strong technical leadership, problem-solving, and cross-functional coordination skills. Preferred Skills
