The Civil Estimator is responsible for accurately forecasting the financial resources required to execute construction projects. Serving as the vital analytical bridge between architectural blueprints and on-site execution, the role deconstructs complex structural designs into quantified, actionable cost models to secure competitive tenders and safeguard overall project profitability.

CORE COSTING & ESTIMATION RESPONSIBILITIES

01 Quantity Takeoffs & Measurement: Extract precise measurements from architectural drawings and BIM models. Compute complex structural metrics including total concrete volumes, reinforcement steel tonnages, and shuttering/formwork surface areas for multi-story RCC structures.

02 BOQ & Tender Formulation: Formulate detailed Bill of Quantities (BOQ). Map scope specifications to standard guidelines (e.g., CPWD, regional DSR) and benchmark baseline rates to secure competitive government and institutional tender bids.

03 Rate Analysis & Cost Mapping: Deconstruct composite items into raw materials, labor ratios, plant/machinery, and contractor margins. Align trade contractor line items with master BOQ allocations to prevent execution budget leakage.

04 Subcontractor Leveling: Source commercial bids from specialist vendors (retrofitting, waterproofing, structural steel). Prepare analytical comparison sheets to perform normalized, apples-to-apples bid leveling.

DEVIATION TRACKING & VALUE ENGINEERING

Identify cost implications when site conditions mandate scope adjustments, such as unexpected footing dismantling or structural redesigns. The estimator drafts formal Deviation Statements and variation claims detailing financial impacts exceeding the originally contracted agreement value.

REQUIRED CANDIDATE PROFILE & EXPERIENCE

Education: Bachelor’s Degree (B.Tech / B.E.) or Diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or Quantity Surveying.

Experience: Proven hands-on track record (3–7+ years) in civil estimation, tendering, and rate analysis for building, infrastructure, or institutional contracts.

Standards Knowledge: Practical exposure to CPWD Specifications, DSR item descriptions, and standard IS measurement codes (e.g., IS 1200).

Commercial Focus: Robust commercial negotiation skills with subcontractors, suppliers, and client quantity surveying representatives.

Tender Accuracy: Zero mathematical or dimensional takeoff discrepancies in approved submissions.
