SM Legal Advocates & Solicitors is looking to expand its Indirect Tax Litigation & Advisory team and invites applications from experienced legal professionals for the position of Associate at its Kolkata office.

This opportunity is suited to advocates with a genuine interest in tax litigation and advisory work, who are keen to develop their expertise through hands-on involvement in legal research, drafting, case preparation and court-related proceedings.

Position Details

- Position: Associate
- Practice Area: Indirect Tax Litigation & Advisory
- Experience: Minimum 2+ years of post-qualification experience in the tax domain.
- Location: Kolkata, West Bengal
- Work Arrangement: Full-time | On-site

Key Responsibilities
- Conduct legal research on indirect tax matters, including GST, Customs, Service Tax and Central Excise.
- Analyse statutes, regulations, judicial precedents and relevant case law.
- Prepare research notes, case briefs and legal submissions.
- Draft replies, appeals, writ petitions, legal opinions and other legal documents.
- Assist in court proceedings, hearings and procedural matters.
- Coordinate with senior advocates and team members in case preparation and hearing-related work.
- Maintain case files, track proceedings and ensure timely completion of assigned tasks.

Eligibility & Qualifications
- LLB / BA LLB / BBA LLB from a recognised institution.




- Mandatory enrolment with the Bar Council; West Bengal enrolment is required.
- Minimum 2+ years of post-qualification experience in the tax domain.
- Working knowledge of indirect tax laws, particularly GST, Customs, Service Tax and Central Excise.
- Must be currently based in Kolkata.

Please note: This is an experienced-hire position. Freshers and candidates without the requisite post-qualification experience in the tax domain are requested not to apply.
