Role Overview

A Banking Tech IT Services company is looking for an experienced Cloud Lead Engineer to drive an end-to-end AWS AMI modernisation and automation programme.

The role will provide technical leadership, governance, stakeholder management, architecture oversight and delivery accountability for AMI catalogue standardisation, migration, automated refresh lifecycle, security compliance and cloud optimisation initiatives.

Hands-on experience with AWS EC2 Image Builder and management of the complete AMI lifecycle are mandatory requirements for this role.

Key Responsibilities

Programme Leadership

- Own overall delivery of the AMI refresh and cloud automation initiative.
- Define the roadmap, milestones, governance framework and execution strategy.
- Lead technical decision-making and architecture reviews.
- Act as a key liaison between leadership, application teams, security teams, cloud engineering teams and vendor resources.
- Drive operational ownership and delivery accountability.

AWS & AMI Strategy

- Design and govern standardised custom AMI architecture.
- Define enterprise-compliant AMI lifecycle processes.
- Establish AMI versioning, maintenance, patching and retirement standards.
- Ensure alignment with enterprise cloud and security policies.
- Drive the end-to-end AMI lifecycle, including creation, configuration, validation, versioning, distribution, refresh, patching, maintenance and retirement.
- Lead the adoption and implementation of AWS EC2 Image Builder for automated image creation and lifecycle management.





Automation & Transformation

- Oversee implementation of Infrastructure as Code solutions.
- Drive adoption of CI/CD, automated testing, vulnerability management and automated refresh processes.
- Eliminate manual operational activities through automation.
- Ensure EC2 Image Builder is integrated into repeatable and automated AMI build and refresh workflows.

Governance & Reporting

- Provide executive reporting and KPI dashboards.
- Track risks, dependencies, issues and remediation actions.
- Lead service reviews and governance discussions.

Cost Optimisation

- Identify AWS optimisation opportunities.
- Review utilisation trends, rightsizing opportunities and architectural improvements.
- Support cloud operating model improvements.

Required Skills & Experience

- Strong experience in AWS Solution Architecture.
- Mandatory hands-on experience with AWS EC2 Image Builder.
- Mandatory experience managing the complete end-to-end AMI lifecycle.
- Robust knowledge of AMI creation, configuration, validation, versioning, distribution, refresh, patching, maintenance and retirement.
- Strong understanding of AWS EC2, Auto Scaling Groups, VPC, IAM and EBS.
- Experience with Terraform and/or Cloud Formation.
- Experience with Jenkins, Git Hub Actions and/or Git Lab CI/CD.
- Knowledge of AWS Systems Manager.
- Experience with security and compliance frameworks.
- Understanding of Fin Ops and cloud cost optimisation.
- Experience leading enterprise-level cloud programmes and technical teams.
