Key responsibilities
1. Strategic sourcing and vendor development
● Identify, evaluate, onboard, and develop suppliers for vehicle components,
subassemblies, consumables, packaging, and manufacturing requirements.
● Obtain and compare quotations, negotiate pricing and commercial terms, and
establish purchase agreements and supplier service-level expectations.
● Develop alternate suppliers for critical components to reduce supply risks and
dependence on single vendors.
2. Procurement and material planning
● Translate the production plan and bill of materials (BOM) into material
requirements and purchase schedules.
● Ensure materials are available in the right quantity, at the right cost, and at the
right time to meet production commitments.
● Track purchase requisitions, purchase orders, order confirmations, supplier
commitments, and delivery schedules.
● Proactively identify shortages, long-lead-time components, and supply
constraints, escalating risks before production is affected.
● Coordinate with Engineering and Manufacturing on BOM changes, substitutions,
engineering revisions, and component availability.
3. Inventory and warehouse management
● Establish practical processes for goods receipt, incoming inspection
coordination, inventory recording, material storage, issue to production, and
stock reconciliation.
● Define appropriate minimum/maximum stock levels, reorder points, and safety
stock based on demand, supplier lead times, and component criticality.
● Monitor inventory accuracy, excess and obsolete stock, ageing, and working
capital tied up in inventory.
● Ensure traceability of critical components and appropriate segregation of
rejected or non-conforming materials.
● Coordinate material staging and timely supply to assembly stations.
4.
Logistics and supplier coordination
● Manage inbound transportation, freight negotiations, shipment tracking, delivery
schedules, and logistics documentation.
● Coordinate finished-vehicle transportation to designated destinations when
required by the operating plan.
● Track freight costs, transit damage, delivery performance, and logistics-related
risks.
● Work with Operations and Marketing to clarify ownership of factory transfers, hub
movements, and customer deliveries.
5. Production planning and supply continuity
● Work closely with Manufacturing, Quality, Engineering, and leadership to align
material availability with the production schedule.
● Maintain a rolling material availability plan and highlight constraints against
upcoming production requirements.
● Support production ramp-up by improving supplier readiness, purchase lead
times, and material flow.
● Develop contingency plans for critical shortages, supplier delays, quality
rejections, and demand changes.
6. Cost control and process improvement
● Build and maintain a transparent view of component costs, landed costs, freight,
supplier payment terms, and procurement savings.
● Identify cost-reduction opportunities through negotiations, alternate sourcing,
value engineering, packaging optimisation, and logistics improvements.
● Establish simple, reliable operating procedures and management reports rather
than creating unnecessary bureaucracy.
● Use ERP and reporting tools to maintain accurate procurement, inventory,
supplier, and material-planning data.
What success looks like
During the initial months, the person will be expected to:
● Establish the supplier base and sourcing pipeline required for production.
● Create a prioritised procurement plan based on the BOM, production schedule,
supplier lead times, and criticality of components.
● Ensure critical materials are available ahead of the planned production start and
subsequent ramp-up.
● Establish purchase order, goods receipt, inventory tracking,
RequirementsRequired experience and skills
● Minimum 3 years of independently managing supply chain, sourcing,
procurement, or material-planning responsibilities.
● Experience in automotive, electric vehicles, engineering, industrial manufacturing,
or a component-intensive manufacturing setting is strongly preferred.
● Demonstrated experience identifying and onboarding suppliers, negotiating
commercial terms, and managing supplier delivery commitments.
● Practical understanding of BOM-based procurement, inventory control,
warehouse processes, production material planning, and inbound logistics.
● Experience managing purchase orders, supplier documentation, delivery tracking,
and material shortages.
● Strong analytical skills and working proficiency in Excel or equivalent reporting
tools.
● Exposure to ERP/MRP systems and the ability to maintain accurate operational
data.
● Good communication, negotiation, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
● Ability to work independently, prioritise competing requirements, and take
ownership without needing detailed day-to-day direction.
