Role Title: Senior Engineering Manager

Position Summary:

The Senior Manager leads a Loyalty product engineering team of engineers and product owners that owns a set of Marriott Bonvoy loyalty capabilities end to end, from backlog to production. Depending on what the portfolio needs, the role leads a multi-year build program, an ongoing run portfolio of enhancements and production support, or both. The leader directly manages lead engineers, engineers and product owners, brings technical judgment to design and delivery decisions, and builds the in-house capability that lets Marriott Tech Accelerator own Loyalty products and platforms rather than staff them.[RK2]

Indicative focus: delivery, release and run 30%; people leadership 25%; product leadership 20%; technical leadership 15%; capability building 10%. The balance shifts with the operating model the role is leading.

Key Responsibilities:

Own Loyalty Capabilities End to End[RK3]:

- Own a set of Loyalty capabilities end to end with one team of engineers and product owners, from backlog and refinement through release and production.
- Run one-team refinement: product owners and engineers shape, size and sequence work together, with clear acceptance criteria, dependencies and non-functional requirements agreed before work is committed.
- Measure outcomes for members and the business rather than output, and make scope, sequencing and trade-off decisions with product and business leaders in clear business language.

- Lead delivery in whichever operating model the portfolio needs: multi-year build programs with fixed milestones, continuous enhancement and production support (BAU and L3), or a mix of both.
- Own planning, estimation, risks and dependencies across teams, architects and partners, and give early visibility when plans change.

Release and Run a Mission-Critical Platform:

- Own release management for the teams led: release calendars, change approval, environment strategy and deployment pipelines across custom-built services and SaaS platforms, with quality gates agreed with Quality Engineering.
- Partner with SRE, Dev Ops and platform teams to meet SLOs and SLAs for an always-on platform; lead incident response, root-cause analysis and problem management.
- Drive adoption of engineering standards, information security, SDLC and IT governance, balancing delivery speed with quality and operational risk.
- Improve continuously using DORA measures (deployment frequency, lead time, change failure rate, time to restore), escaped defects and service levels.

Lead People:

- Directly manage lead engineers, engineers and product owners end to end: hiring, goals, performance reviews, promotions and managing underperformance.
- Grow lead engineers into managers and shape team structures to fit the operating model, with succession for critical roles so delivery never rests on one person.
- Set explicit priorities and short-term resource plans, and build an inclusive culture that models Marriott values in a high-pressure, matrixed environment.
- Retain and grow talent in a competitive market through career paths, coaching and early action on attrition risk.

Build the Capability Centre:

- Build Marriott Tech Accelerator ownership of Loyalty products and platforms: take over work from partners and vendors with structured knowledge transfer, and collaborate across time zones with US-based product, architecture and business teams.
- Drive adoption of modern engineering practices, including automation and AI-assisted development and testing, with measurable gains in quality and throughput.

Management Competencies:

Competency Area:

Communication; leading through vision and values; managing change; sound judgement; professional presence; strategy development.
- Managing Execution: Building successful teams; strategy execution; setting high performance standards; taking accountability for results.
- Building Relationships: Global mindset; inclusive collaboration; strategic partnerships; influence across functions and locations.

- Professional Expertise: Continuous learning; technical acumen; SDLC and development methodologies; information security; business acumen.

Skills and Experience:

- 12+ years in software development, including 5+ years of direct people management with lead engineers reporting in.
- Has led both a multi-year build or transformation program and an ongoing run portfolio (enhancements, production support, L3), and can explain how each was run differently.
- Has led delivery on a platform that combines custom-built services (Java/Spring or similar) with an enterprise SaaS platform (Salesforce, Service Now, SAP, Dynamics or similar), including the integrations, data flows and release coordination between them. Salesforce experience will be a strong plus.[RK4]
- Experience in a product operating model, ideally in product companies or global capability centres; services-firm experience should include multi-year ownership of a single product or platform. Experience leading product owners or business analysts is a strong plus.
- Hands-on engineering background with current technical judgment across services and APIs, cloud, CI/CD, observability, automated testing and production operations.
- Experience with Agile at scale (preferably SAFe) and ITIL 4 service practices.
- Has managed distributed teams across time zones, including vendor and partner teams.
- Strong communication, negotiation and influencing skills; able to translate technical considerations into clear business language and drive decisions.
