Job Title: Supervisor – Mechanical/Electrical (Project Jalkapi, GSL)
Location:
Goa Shipyard Ltd, Vasco da Gama |
Experience:
5-10 Years About Rekise Marine Rekise Marine is building autonomous ships and submarines that operate in the world’s most hostile environments. We’re executing India’s flagship autonomous submarine project, the Jalkapi XLAUV, on order from the Indian Navy. This is an unmanned submarine weighing over 20 tons that can travel 5,000+ kilometers autonomously and operate in the ocean for 30+ days at a time. We’re creating some of the largest autonomous platforms in the world, machines with direct impact on the global economy and national security. While autonomous cars in India may still be a dream, autonomous ships and submarines are already a reality, and we can build for the world from India. The Role We’re hiring three on-site Mechanical/Electrical Supervisors to drive day-to-day progress on Project Jalkapi at Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL), where Rekise works alongside shipyard teams on build, outfitting, integration and trials. The Supervisor is Rekise’s eyes, ears and voice on the GSL shop floor and the company’s working link with GSL departments. You will track daily work against the project schedule, clear hold-ups with the right GSL department, and make sure mechanical and electrical work is done safely, to drawing and to quality standards. This is a coordination-first role with hands-on technical oversight, not a desk job: most of the day is spent on the vessel, in the shops and in GSL offices.
Key Responsibilities
Work progress and planning
• Track daily and weekly progress of mechanical and electrical jobs against the Jalkapi project schedule and milestones.
• Break down the plan into job cards and short look-ahead schedules with GSL Planning.
• Spot delays early, find the cause (material, manpower, drawings, approvals, yard resources) and drive them to closure.
• Issue daily progress reports and a weekly status summary to the Manager Marine Operations, with photos and an open-issues list.
• Maintain the punch list and track every item to sign-off. Liaison with GSL departments
• Act as Rekise’s single on-site point of contact for GSL Production, Planning, Design, QA/QC, Stores/Materials, Safety and Security.
• Raise and follow up work requests, gate passes, crane and dock bookings, hot-work and other permits.
• Attend GSL coordination meetings; record decisions and action items, and follow them up.
• Escalate unresolved issues promptly and with facts, following agreed channels.
• Coordinate access, induction and badging for Rekise staff, vendors and visitors in line with GSL security rules. Technical oversight (mechanical/electrical)
• Supervise installation of equipment, piping, shafting, machinery foundations, or cabling, switchboards, power and control systems — depending on discipline.
• Check work against approved drawings, specifications and installation procedures.
• Coordinate Rekise engineering with GSL on drawing queries, technical deviations and field changes.
• Support harbour and sea trials, system integration and commissioning, including test readiness checks. Quality, safety and documentation
• Arrange and witness inspections with GSL QA/QC and, where required, the client or classification surveyor.
• Ensure all work follows GSL safety rules, permit-to-work, LOTO and PPE requirements; report near misses and incidents.
• Keep inspection records, test reports, material certificates and as-built mark-ups complete and filed.
• Track Rekise-supplied material and equipment issued to GSL; reconcile stores records. Contractor and vendor coordination
• Coordinate vendor and OEM engineers on site: scheduling, access, scope and service reports.
• Verify completed work for billing and sign-off. Required Qualifications
• 3-year Diploma in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Marine, Electronics & Communication, Computer, Automobile or Civil).
• 5–10 years in shipbuilding, ship repair, naval dockyard or marine/defence fabrication; at least 2 years supervising work or coordinating with multiple departments.
• Working knowledge of shipyard practices: job cards, work requests, permits, inspection and test plans, and trials.
• Able to read and interpret mechanical/electrical drawings, schematics and specifications.
• Strong working knowledge of MS Excel and reporting; comfortable with email and shared project trackers.
• Fluent in English and Hindi; Konkani or Marathi is an advantage at GSL.
• Indian national; must clear GSL and project security verification for access to a defence shipyard.
• Willing to work extended hours and weekends during trials and critical milestones. Preferred
• Prior work at or with GSL, Mazagon Dock, GRSE, Cochin Shipyard, HSL or a naval dockyard.
• Ex-Navy/Coast Guard technical sailors with yard or refit experience.
• Exposure to integration and trials of control, propulsion, battery or sensor systems on small or unmanned vessels.
• Familiarity with classification society or naval inspection requirements (IRS, DGQA/Navy QA).
• Safety training such as IOSH, NEBOSH IGC or a shipyard safety certificate. Key skills and attributes
• Follows through: closes issues, does not just log them.
• Builds working relationships with shipyard staff at all levels and keeps them under pressure.
• Explicit, fact-based reporting and escalation.
• Sound safety judgement on the shop floor.
• Handles confidential defence project information with discretion.
