About Us
EPIKInDiFi builds the Ezee Platform, a lending-focused fintech suite (LOS/CRM) used by banks and NBFCs across India. Our microservices run on cloud/on-prem and handle sensitive financial and identity data under RBI and UIDAI compliance requirements. We’re looking for a MongoDB DBA who can keep our data layer fast, secure, highly available, and audit-ready.
Role Overview
You’ll own the design, performance, reliability, and security of our MongoDB deployments, both Enterprise and Community editions, across production and non-production environments. You’ll work closely with platform engineering, DevOps/SRE, and product teams to support high-volume lending workflows.
Key Responsibilities
Database Administration & Operations
- Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain MongoDB clusters (replica sets and sharded clusters) across environments.
- Administer both MongoDB Enterprise Advanced and MongoDB Community Edition deployments, choosing the right edition for each environment based on security, compliance, and cost needs.
- Manage MongoDB deployments on Azure (VMs, AKS/Kubernetes operators) and/or MongoDB Atlas.
- Plan and run version upgrades, patching, and migrations with minimal downtime, including migrations between Community and Enterprise editions.
- Own capacity planning, storage management, and growth forecasting.
Performance & Optimization
- Monitor and tune database performance: query analysis, indexing strategy, and explain plans.
- Find and fix slow queries, lock contention, and resource bottlenecks.
- Advise developers on schema design, data modelling, and aggregation pipelines.
- Design and maintain sharding strategies and shard key selection.
High Availability & Disaster Recovery
- Design and maintain replica sets, failover, and read/write concern configurations.
- Implement and regularly test backup and restore strategies (mongodump/mongorestore, snapshots, point-in-time recovery, Ops Manager/Atlas backups).
- Define and validate RPO/RTO targets and run DR drills.
Security & Compliance
- Implement authentication, RBAC, encryption at rest and in transit (TLS), and auditing.
- Configure Enterprise-only security features, including LDAP/Kerberos authentication, native encryption at rest (KMIP integration), and the database auditing framework.
- Implement equivalent controls on Community Edition (for example, disk-level encryption, external audit logging, and access hardening) where Enterprise features aren’t available.
- Manage access controls and secrets in line with least-privilege principles.
- Support compliance and audit requirements under RBI guidelines and UIDAI data-handling norms, including data masking, retention, and PII protection.
- Take part in security reviews, VAPT remediation, and audit evidence preparation.
Monitoring & Automation
- Set up monitoring and alerting with tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or Atlas monitoring.
- Automate routine DBA tasks (backups, health checks, user provisioning, index reviews) using shell, Python, or similar.
- Work with SRE on incident response, root-cause analysis, and postmortems.
Collaboration
- Review database changes in CI/CD pipelines and help define data migration practices.
- Document runbooks, architecture, and operating procedures.
- Mentor developers on MongoDB best practices.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 4–5 years of hands-on experience as a MongoDB DBA in production, with practical experience on both MongoDB Enterprise Advanced and MongoDB Community Edition.
- Clear understanding of the differences between Enterprise and Community editions, including security, auditing, encryption, management tooling, and licensing, and the ability to recommend the right fit.
- Strong knowledge of MongoDB architecture: replica sets, sharding, WiredTiger, oplog, and read/write concerns.
- Hands-on experience with MongoDB Ops Manager or Cloud Manager for deployment automation, monitoring, and backup.
- Proven experience with performance tuning, indexing, and query optimization.
- Hands-on experience with backup, restore, and disaster recovery planning.
- Experience with MongoDB security: authentication, RBAC, TLS, encryption, and auditing.
- Working knowledge of Linux administration and shell scripting.
- Experience with at least one cloud platform (Azure preferred).
- Familiarity with monitoring tools (Prometheus/Grafana, Ops Manager, or Atlas).
- Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to handle production incidents calmly.
Good to Have
- MongoDB Certified DBA (Associate or Skilled).
- Experience with MongoDB Atlas alongside self-managed Enterprise and Community deployments.
- Experience running MongoDB on Kubernetes (AKS), including the MongoDB Enterprise Kubernetes
Operator or Community Kubernetes Operator.
- Python or Node.js scripting for automation.
- Prior experience in BFSI, fintech, or other regulated industries.
- Knowledge of change data capture (Change Streams, Debezium).
Education
Bachelor's degree in computer science, IT, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
What We Offer
- The chance to own the data layer of a growing lending platform used by leading financial institutions.
- Work on cloud-native, high-scale, compliance-driven systems.
- A collaborative engineering culture with exposure to AI-driven lending products.
- Competitive compensation and benefits.
