PI R&D; Chemist Roles and Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

- Perform chemical synthesis of API molecules according to approved procedures.

- Develop, optimize, and scale up synthetic routes for APIs and intermediates.

- Conduct laboratory experiments and maintain accurate experimental records.

- Handle reactions, work-up, purification, crystallization, distillation, and drying operations.

- Prepare reaction schemes, batch records, and technical reports.

- Analyze reaction samples using analytical techniques such as HPLC, GC, TLC, and NMR (basic interpretation).

- Troubleshoot process-related issues and improve reaction yield, purity, and productivity.

- Transfer developed processes from laboratory scale to pilot plant and commercial manufacturing.

- Ensure compliance with GLP, GMP, EHS, and company SOPs.

- Handle chemicals safely and dispose of laboratory waste according to safety guidelines.

- Coordinate with Analytical R&D;, Process Development (PD), Production, QA, and QC teams.

- Participate in technology transfer (Tech Transfer) activities.

- Maintain laboratory equipment, instruments, and documentation.

- Support process validation and qualification activities when required.

Required Skills

- Strong knowledge of Organic Chemistry and API synthesis.





- Hands-on experience with laboratory glassware and synthesis equipment.

- Knowledge of reaction mechanisms and process optimization.

- Basic understanding of analytical instruments (HPLC, GC, LCMS, NMR, IR).

- Documentation skills and technical report writing.

- Problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.

- Valuable communication and teamwork skills.

- Familiarity with GLP, GMP, EHS, and SOP compliance.

Qualification

- B.Sc / M.Sc Chemistry

Experience

- Freshers: Laboratory internship or academic project experience.

- Experienced: 0- 1 year in API R&D;, Process R&D;, CRD, or Process Development.
