About Montgomery CPA

Montgomery CPA, LLC is an established U.S. Certified Public Accounting firm headquartered in Albuquerque, New Mexico, with more than 30 years of experience serving individuals and businesses.

Our firm has successfully worked with accounting professionals in India for approximately 20 years. Our India-based team is an integral part of our operations, working directly with U.S. tax professionals, management, and clients.

We are seeking an experienced Senior U.S. Tax Accountant who can independently prepare complex U.S. individual and business income tax returns.

This is a permanent, full-time, year-round position—not a seasonal tax preparation job. Our firm serves clients throughout the year and maintains a continuous workload involving individual, business, trust, and estate taxation, tax planning, and compliance. We are looking for a professional interested in building a long-term career with our firm.

This is not an entry-level position. Applicants must already have substantial, recent, hands-on experience preparing U.S. tax returns for a U.S. CPA firm or U.S. tax preparation firm.

Mandatory Minimum Qualifications

ALL of the following requirements must be met to qualify for consideration:

1. Minimum 3 years of recent, hands-on experience preparing U.S. federal individual and business income tax returns for a U.S. CPA firm or U.S. accounting/tax preparation firm.
2. Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com), Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) with an accounting or finance specialization, or equivalent recognized bachelor's degree in accounting, commerce, or finance. Three-year and four-year recognized Indian bachelor's degrees are acceptable.
3. Demonstrated experience preparing both U.S. individual and business income tax returns, including Forms 1040, 1065, and 1120-S.
4. Ability to independently prepare tax returns, analyze supporting documentation, and identify tax compliance issues.
5. Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
6. Ability to work the required split-shift schedule, including three evening hours in India to collaborate directly with our U.S. team.

IMPORTANT: Candidates without at least three years of recent U.S. individual AND business income tax preparation experience should not apply. Experience limited to Indian income tax, GST, general bookkeeping, or accounting does not satisfy our minimum experience requirement.

Preferred Professional Qualifications

Candidates possessing the following credentials will receive preferential consideration:

- U.S. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) – Highest preference.
- IRS Enrolled Agent (EA) – Highly preferred.
- Indian Chartered Accountant (CA) – Preferred.
- Active IRS-issued Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN) – Preferred but not required.
- Master of Commerce (M.Com) or other relevant advanced accounting qualification.
- Experience with Intuit ProConnect Tax, Intuit Link, and QuickBooks Online.
- Experience preparing complex individual income tax returns, partnership returns, S corporation returns, C corporation returns, and trust and estate income tax returns.

Professional designations and an active PTIN are advantageous but do not replace the mandatory experience and education requirements.

Key Responsibilities

- Independently prepare complex U.S. individual income tax returns (Form 1040).
- Prepare partnership income tax returns (Form 1065).
- Prepare S corporation income tax returns (Form 1120-S).
- Prepare C corporation income tax returns (Form 1120).
- Prepare trust and estate income tax returns (Form 1041), where qualified.
- Review financial statements, trial balances, bookkeeping records, and supporting tax documentation.
- Identify discrepancies, missing information, and potential tax issues.
- Prepare accurate tax workpapers and supporting schedules.
- Coordinate with the Tax Manager and other team members to complete assigned returns.
- Participate in daily Zoom collaboration sessions with the firm's U.S. and India teams.
- Communicate professionally with colleagues and, when appropriate, U.S. clients.
- Meet established deadlines and maintain the firm's standards for accuracy, confidentiality, and client service.

Work Schedule – Important This position requires a split work schedule totaling approximately eight hours per day.

Three hours during the evening in India: Approximately 9:00 PM to midnight IST, subject to U.S. daylight saving time adjustments.

During these hours, employees participate in a live, firmwide Zoom collaboration session with our U.S. team. We work together on client projects, discuss technical questions, coordinate assignments, and interact with clients.

Five additional hours during regular daytime hours in India: Employees have flexibility in scheduling these hours, subject to work assignments, deadlines, and team coordination.

Applicants must be comfortable with this split-shift arrangement.

Work-From-Home Requirements

This is a permanent,

100% remote position. Candidates must provide and maintain:

- A dedicated, separate, enclosed home office free from distractions and background noise.
- Reliable, high-speed internet connectivity suitable for continuous video conferencing and remote work.
- A modern, current-generation personal computer capable of running professional accounting and tax applications.
- Dual monitors.
- A functioning webcam, microphone, and speakers or headset.
- A professional, quiet environment for Zoom meetings and occasional client interactions.

Compensation and Benefits

- Very market-competitive salary, based on experience, qualifications, professional credentials, and demonstrated technical capabilities.
- 30 paid days off annually, inclusive of vacation, personal days, sick days, and designated holidays.
- Permanent, full-time, year-round employment. This is not a seasonal or temporary tax preparation position.
- Permanent work-from-home employment.
- Opportunity to work directly with an established U.S. CPA firm.
- Exposure to complex U.S. federal and state tax matters.
- Collaborative working relationships with experienced U.S. and India-based professionals.
- Long-term career growth opportunities as our firm continues to expand.
