Senior GCP Platform Engineer – Terraform, Backstage & DevOps

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior GCP Platform Engineer with solid expertise in Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Terraform, Backstage Developer Portal, TypeScript, and DevOps automation.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, automating, and maintaining enterprise-scale GCP infrastructure while enabling developer self-service capabilities through Backstage.

This is a hands-on engineering position requiring strong coding, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), CI/CD automation, and cloud platform engineering skills.

Key Responsibilities

1. GCP Platform Engineering & Infrastructure Management

- Design, develop, deploy, and maintain scalable, secure, and highly available GCP infrastructure.
- Automate GCP project creation, environment provisioning, and infrastructure configuration.
- Implement cloud governance standards, security policies, IAM roles, groups, and access controls.
- Manage production and non-production GCP environments.
- Develop standardized infrastructure provisioning solutions to support enterprise platform engineering initiatives.

2. Terraform & Infrastructure as Code (IaC)

- Design, develop, and maintain reusable Terraform modules for GCP infrastructure automation.
- Automate provisioning of GCP projects, VPCs, subnets, IAM configurations, and network connectivity.
- Implement hub-and-spoke networking architectures and standardized cloud infrastructure patterns.
- Manage Terraform repositories, configurations, state management, and deployment workflows.
- Establish best practices for IaC, including modularity, version control, code reviews, and automated validation.

Backstage Developer Portal & TypeScript Development

- Develop, customize, and maintain the Backstage Internal Developer Portal.
- Build and enhance Backstage plugins, scaffolder templates, and self-service provisioning workflows.
- Develop integrations and automation components using TypeScript.
- Integrate Backstage with Terraform and CI/CD pipelines to enable automated GCP infrastructure provisioning.
- Improve developer productivity by simplifying infrastructure requests, approvals, and deployment processes.

4. CI/CD & DevOps Automation

- Design, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Harness and GitHub Actions.
- Automate Terraform validation, planning, approvals, and deployment processes.
- Integrate infrastructure automation workflows with source control and CI/CD platforms.
- Implement automated testing, security checks, and deployment governance.
- Troubleshoot pipeline failures and optimize deployment workflows.

5. GCP Networking, Monitoring & Troubleshooting

- Configure and troubleshoot GCP VPCs, subnets, routing, firewall rules, and network connectivity.
- Support hub-and-spoke network architectures and hybrid cloud connectivity.
- Diagnose and resolve cloud infrastructure and networking issues.
- Use Splunk for log analysis, monitoring, and production troubleshooting.
- Collaborate with cloud security, networking, application development, and platform engineering teams.





Required Technical Skills

- Google Cloud Platform (GCP): Strong hands-on experience with GCP infrastructure, project provisioning, VPC networking, IAM, and cloud governance.
- Terraform: Advanced experience developing reusable Terraform modules and automating cloud infrastructure provisioning.
- Backstage: Hands-on experience developing, customizing, and integrating Backstage Developer Portal components, plugins, and scaffolder templates.
- TypeScript: Strong programming experience with TypeScript for Backstage development and automation.
- CI/CD: Experience developing and maintaining pipelines using Harness and GitHub Actions.
- GCP Networking: Experience with VPCs, subnets, routing, firewalls, hub-and-spoke architecture, and connectivity troubleshooting.
- Cloud Governance: Knowledge of IAM, access controls, infrastructure standards, and production/non-production environment management.
- Monitoring: Experience using Splunk for infrastructure monitoring, log analysis, and troubleshooting.
- Version Control: Strong hands-on experience with Git, branching strategies, pull requests, and collaborative development workflows.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience working in enterprise Cloud Platform Engineering or Cloud Enablement teams.
- Experience building Internal Developer Platforms (IDPs) and developer self-service solutions.
- Familiarity with GCP Shared VPC, Cloud DNS, Cloud NAT, and VPC Peering.
- Experience integrating Backstage with Terraform-based infrastructure provisioning and approval workflows.
- Knowledge of GitOps, cloud security, infrastructure compliance, and automated governance.
- Experience supporting enterprise-scale GCP environments.
