Production Manager / Production Engineer

1. Job Purpose To manage, supervise, and optimize manufacturing operations, ensuring efficient production, effective utilization of machinery and manpower, consistent product quality, and timely achievement of production targets.

The candidate must possess strong hands-on experience in operating, setting up, commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintaining electro-mechanical machinery and automated production systems.

The role requires practical knowledge of industrial automation, PLC, HMI, VFD, motor drivers, electrical control panels, laser marking machines, sensors, and machine control systems, along with the ability to manage production operators, technicians, and shop-floor activities.

The candidate will be responsible for production planning, machine performance, operator management, preventive maintenance, process improvement, and implementation of manufacturing best practices.

2. Key Responsibilities

A. Production Planning & Execution

- Prepare and implement daily, weekly, and monthly production plans based on business requirements and dispatch schedules.
- Monitor production output against planned targets and ensure timely completion of production schedules.
- Optimize machine capacity, manpower utilization, material consumption, and production efficiency.
- Monitor work-in-progress (WIP), production cycle time, and manufacturing productivity.
- Identify production bottlenecks and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure smooth coordination between production shifts and departments.
- Maintain daily production reports and performance records.

B. Electro-Mechanical Machine Operations & Industrial Automation

- Operate, supervise, and manage electro-mechanical production machines and automated manufacturing equipment.
- Have practical knowledge of industrial electrical systems, control panels, wiring diagrams, and electrical troubleshooting.
- Operate and troubleshoot PLC-based machine control systems, including basic logic understanding, I/O configuration, and fault diagnosis.
- Configure and operate HMI systems and machine operating parameters.
- Handle AC/DC motor drives, servo motors, stepper motors, and motor driver systems.
- Configure, operate, and troubleshoot Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs).
- Understand electrical panels, relays, contactors, MCBs, SMPS, sensors, and safety interlocks.
- Handle digital panel meters, controllers, timers, counters, and measuring instruments.
- Operate and troubleshoot laser marking machines and associated control systems.
- Understand pneumatic and electro-pneumatic systems, actuators, solenoid valves, and sensors.
- Coordinate installation, commissioning, calibration, and production trials of new machinery.

C. Machine Setup, Installation & Changeover

- Independently handle machine setup, commissioning, parameter setting, and production readiness.
- Perform machine changeovers for different product sizes, specifications, and production requirements.
- Configure PLC, HMI, VFD, motor drivers, sensors, and other machine operating parameters as required.
- Understand electrical and mechanical drawings, machine layouts, wiring diagrams, and operating manuals.
- Ensure proper machine alignment, calibration, tooling adjustments, and process settings before production.
- Conduct trial runs and first-piece verification after machine setup or changeover.
- Minimize machine setup and changeover time.
- Maintain machine setup records and approved operating parameters.
- Ensure machines operate consistently within approved process parameters.

D. Machine Maintenance & Reliability

- Plan, implement, and monitor preventive and predictive maintenance schedules.
- Perform or coordinate routine machine inspections, servicing, lubrication, cleaning, and adjustments.
- Identify and troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and automation-related faults.
- Diagnose problems involving PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, motors, motor drivers, sensors, relays, contactors, and control panels.




- Coordinate breakdown maintenance and minimize machine downtime.
- Maintain machine history cards, maintenance logs, breakdown reports, and spare-parts records.
- Identify critical spare parts and ensure their availability.
- Coordinate with machine manufacturers and external service engineers for technical support.
- Analyze recurring breakdowns and implement permanent corrective actions.
- Ensure machine safety devices, interlocks, emergency stops, and electrical protection systems are functional.

E. Operator & Manpower Management

- Manage, supervise, and coordinate production operators, machine operators, technicians, and line supervisors.
- Allocate manpower across machines and production lines based on production requirements.
- Ensure operators are adequately trained in machine operation, setup procedures, safety, and quality requirements.
- Develop operator skill matrices and identify training requirements.
- Monitor operator productivity, attendance, discipline, and performance.
- Ensure operators follow approved SOPs, work instructions, and standard operating practices.
- Manage shift allocation, shift handovers, and manpower planning.
- Build a technically competent and disciplined production team.
- Ensure optimum manpower utilization and improve individual and team productivity.

F. Process Improvement & Productivity

- Improve machine productivity, process consistency, and manufacturing efficiency.
- Implement Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, and Six Sigma methodologies.
- Monitor Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), production yield, rejection rates, and scrap.
- Perform Root Cause Analysis using 5 Why Analysis, Fishbone Diagram, and Pareto Analysis.
- Reduce machine downtime, production losses, and material wastage.
- Standardize machine settings, operating parameters, and work instructions.
- Identify opportunities for automation and process optimization.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing operations.

G. Quality Control & Documentation

- Coordinate with QC and QA departments to maintain consistent product quality.
- Ensure production is carried out as per approved specifications and process parameters.
- Support in-process inspections, first-piece approvals, and production validation.
- Investigate manufacturing defects and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Maintain production reports, machine logs, batch records, and process documentation.
- Ensure batch identification, material traceability, and production records are maintained.
- Support internal audits, customer audits, process audits, and ISO 9001:2015 requirements.
- Ensure non-conforming materials and products are properly identified and segregated.

H. Safety & Shop-Floor Management

- Ensure compliance with industrial safety practices and statutory requirements.
- Implement safe operating procedures for machinery and production equipment.
- Ensure proper use of PPE and safe material handling practices.
- Monitor machine guarding, electrical safety, emergency stops, and interlocks.
- Identify workplace hazards and implement preventive measures.
- Maintain cleanliness, housekeeping, and 5S standards across production areas.

4. Production Management & Quality Tools The candidate should have working knowledge of:

5. Educational Qualification

- Diploma / Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Instrumentation, or Production Engineering.
- Additional certifications in Industrial Automation, PLC Programming, Electrical Systems, Lean Manufacturing, or Six Sigma will be an advantage.

6. Experience Required

Production Engineer:

- 35 years of relevant industrial experience.
- Hands-on experience in operating, setting up, and troubleshooting electro-mechanical machinery and industrial automation systems.
- Experience in production supervision, machine maintenance, and operator coordination.

Production Manager:

- 58+ years of relevant manufacturing experience.
- Experience in managing production teams, automated machinery, industrial electrical systems, maintenance activities, and manufacturing operations.
- Ability to independently manage production planning, machine performance, manpower, and shop-floor operations.

Industry Preference: Experience in electronic components, passive components, ceramic components, MOV/Varistor, resistor manufacturing, or similar automated manufacturing industries will be an added advantage.

7. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

Overall Responsibility The candidate will be responsible for ensuring smooth and efficient manufacturing operations through effective production planning, machine management, operator supervision, machine setup, and maintenance. The position requires a technically solid and hands-on professional capable of managing both production activities and industrial automation systems, ensuring optimum machine utilization, minimum downtime, consistent product quality, and achievement of organizational production objectives.
