1. JOB PURPOSE To lead product engineering and design activities for automotive mirror systems, ensuring compliance with customer requirements, technical specifications, quality, cost and manufacturing feasibility. Drive product development, validation and production readiness in coordination with cross-functional teams, customers, suppliers and manufacturing plants.

2. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

A. Product Engineering & Design

- Understand and review customer requirements, SOR, 2D drawings, 3D CAD data and applicable standards.
- Evaluate product designs for functionality, manufacturability, assembly and cost optimisation.
- Drive design improvements, VAVE and benchmarking activities.
- Prepare and validate BOM, product specifications and preliminary process flow.
- Review GD&T;, tolerance requirements, checking fixtures and engineering validation reports.
- Ensure product design meets customer and manufacturing requirements.

B. Project Execution

- Drive engineering deliverables as per project timelines and milestones.
- Coordinate CFT meetings, product trials, prototype builds and design reviews.
- Ensure product performance in terms of fitment, function, weight, quality and durability.
- Support mock-ups, prototypes, 3D scanning, CMM, DVP and validation activities.
- Resolve engineering concerns and support successful PP and SOP launches.

C. Engineering Data Management

- Ensure accurate management of 2D drawings, 3D models, BOM, BOP and engineering documents.
- Manage PLM data, engineering releases and ECN implementation.
- Ensure timely release of approved data to tooling, gauge and fixture suppliers.
- Maintain engineering documentation and ensure VDS and audit compliance.

Cross-Functional & Team Management

- Coordinate engineering activities with internal teams, customers and suppliers.
- Plan and monitor resources, workloads and project deliverables.
- Support team development, technical mentoring and knowledge sharing.
- Drive R&D; initiatives and continuous improvement activities.

E. Plant & Customer Support

- Coordinate engineering handover and production readiness at manufacturing plants.
- Support assembly trials, fixture validation and resolution of production issues.
- Provide technical guidance and training to plant teams.
- Support customer interactions, audits, VAVE and Kaizen initiatives.

3. KEY CHALLENGES

- Translating customer requirements into feasible product designs.
- Ensuring product performance, quality and manufacturability.
- Achieving cross-functional alignment and timely project execution.
- Managing engineering changes and resolving product development issues.
- Willingness to travel to customer locations and manufacturing plants across Chennai, Bengaluru, Delhi NCR, Pune and other locations.

4. DECISION-MAKING AUTHORITY

- Evaluate product design feasibility and engineering improvements.
- Recommend BOM and process flow finalisation.
- Coordinate CIR, BOM and prototype sample approvals.




- Recommend corrective actions and engineering changes.
- Escalate major technical and customer-related decisions to the Project Lead.

5. JOB DIMENSIONS

- Responsible for engineering deliverables across assigned product development programmes.
- Coordinate with customers, suppliers and cross-functional teams.
- Support product cost optimisation, VAVE and successful project launches.

6. QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Educational Qualification

- Diploma / B.E. in Mechanical Engineering, Plastic Technology or equivalent.
- Qualifications from CIPET, IGTR, NTTF or equivalent institutes are also considered.
- Product design and tooling knowledge preferred.

Work Experience

- Minimum 6 years of relevant experience in automotive product engineering and development.
- Preferably experienced in 2W/3W automotive mirror systems.
- Hands-on experience in plastic product design, development, tooling and manufacturing processes.
- Experience in product validation, customer coordination and product launches.
- Preferred customer exposure: Bajaj, Honda, Yamaha, MTWL, Piaggio, Royal Enfield, Suzuki, Hero and Ather.
